Attempting to murder a helpless baby is just plain evil no matter the method used.

Reminds me of pillaging Japanese soldiers during the Nanking Massacre who threw Chinese babies up in the air and caught them with their bayonets.

It's worse than a developmentally delayed woman being tortured. This is a baby.

How very offensive in itself. A terrible crime it is... but I'd rather a baby was killed than an adult who actually has "more than just immediate family" to miss him/her, and/or who had made at least some sort of contribution to society?

I bet I get flamed for this.

See, I'm not condoning what is an awful thing to do... I'm just saying that the fact that it was a baby shouldn't make it more shocking. I'm more inclined to mourn the death of someone killed in a war than I am a baby.

A baby hasn't had the chance to live fully yet, should that be taken away? An adult already has lived, but does this mean the elderly are less or more valuable then children, no; they're all human and intrinsically equally valuable.

Well... exactly - my point was just that people cause a big fuss just because it was a baby.

Although given the choice between one or the other, I'd save the life of an adult unless the adult was a seriously bad person - the kid could turn out to be anything, and given today's society, probably not much good, haha.

Society isn't uniform geographically though and the child's development is not merely a product of the environment.

Sadomicrowavism topic

This is a heinous crime. This is torture, the work of a sadist, no matter what the age or species of the being involved.

I think there was a study linking cruelty to animals with criminal behavior.

Here's one reference to that study: http://www.helpinganimals.com/Factsheet ... asp?ID=132

I don't feel it is right to prefer one person to live more simply due to age. Who should die preferably in a violent manner? a baby? a 22 year old man/woman? a 67 year old? I think each person is worthy of the same protection.

There was a high profile case like that in Houston.
