Yet another sign that the end is near...

Not sure what to think of this, but part of me is hoping he'll be banned from baseball for steroid usage...

Hank Aaron will always be Home Run King!
Barry Bonds should be banned from baseball for using performance-enhancing drugs!

I think his record should be DQ'ed because of his steriod use-and his is not the only one. There are so many records on the books in a number of sports that aren't legitimate. I could probably count on the fingers of one hand the records that are set on the up-and-up these days. Sports have come to a sorry pass.

Where's the proof that he took the 'roids in the first place? Unless there is absolute proof that he did, and the B-samples etc show it, then disqualify him. Too me, it's tall-poppy syndrome: if those that didn't like him and didn't want him to break the record decided that he wasn't worthy, they would do anything to make sure he didn't get it. Sure, sport has been rife with so called drug cheats (cycling, athletics), but without definite proof, the case falls flat on its face. Take Ben Johnson's 9.79 record for the 100m in Seoul; Carl Lewis benefited from that, even though we know he didn't have a hope in hell of winning. So he got the American team to accuse Johnson of being a drug cheat. He gets banned, the record is withdrawn, and Lewis gets the medal. Everyone forgets that half the American team then were on drugs anyway (whether is was 'roids or other drugs), and Johnson's result was dodgy at best. If Johnson's 9.79 record wasn't to be recognised, neither should Lewis's 9.84. But who is game enough to argue against the Yanks?
Even the Spanish winner of the '07 Tour de France is said to be a cheat, but is the second placed Aussie likely to benefit? Doubt it.

If he did or didn't makes very little difference to me.

Someone please show me the study that says steroids help you make contact with the ball, or that muscle mass alone equals home runs. If that were the case why don't teams fill their lineups with body builders and teach them to hit?

His achievements are do to his personal skill than to any possible steroid use.

On top of it where is the roid rage? With all the booing he's been getting lately he would have killed at least 10 people by now :)

Besides, how can steroids actually be called performance enhancing? They may increase body mass slightly, but their overall effect would actually decrease your performance because your motor ability would be impaired, and you may only get a power surge for a short time, and the resultant come-down would be worse (like the most sever cramp you could imagine) and the dehydration would almost kill you. Hypogonadism is another symptom, as is hypercardiac stress and the fact that the muscles could explode.
I know steroids can be prescribed for acne and asthma, but they are generally small doses monitored by a physician. If anyone was good enough in the first place, why bugger their chances with drugs?

Chosen One,

I agree. In the short run, people experienced "performance enhancing" effects. In the long run, however, people were dying like flies from cancer and heart attacks. I have read many accounts of people from Eastern Bloc countries who died young from cancer and heart attacks because of steriod use.

There was a joke going around about 20 years ago about a weightlifter who was accused of steroid use. He said to the reporters, 'I didn't take no stereo'. Thought it was funny at the time.

Actually that's not true. Steroids can definitely improve your performance. I'm not going to go too far into it but it gives you alot more bat speed, strength, stamina, and helps your body recover faster. The guy who invented "the cream" even said they do improve hand-eye coordination. It does make you a better player and Barry wouldn't of even touched 700 without them. Bonds was great without them without a doubt that but he was jealous of the attention McGuire and Sosa got over him. You just don't become an exponentially better player in your late 30s/early 40s. Factor in the change of body, surge in stats, the era, his connections with BALCO, and the players who have ratted him out. He took them, there's not doubt about that whether or not he ever tests positive. That was the point of BALCO anyways, undetectable steroids. We'll see in about 10 years when he's dead. Look how sick McGuire is. Look at all these wrestlers dropping dead. I can't imagine him living to an old age.
