President Trump's doctor says he is doing very well in hospital, 72 hours after being diagnosed
However, this contrasts with unnamed sources speaking of "critical" days ahead
He has been in hospital since Friday and the 72-hour timeline does not match with official announcements
If true, Mr Trump would have been campaigning at the time he tested positive

Trump only has mild symptoms but my speculation is he was only brought there to keep him from spreading it because they know he will keep going out in public while positive.

You don't go to the hospital for mild symptoms but he did and I said "of course they would bring him there, he is the president and they don't want him to go out in public spreading it."

Even our local station here did breaking news about it and I said "even they are happy he got it because they made this be breaking news" but my husband disagreed and said "no it's because he is the president." But they spent the whole entire hour talking about it making me miss my Dr. Phil because they interrupted that show and they always do it around 3. Ugh. I often think about emailing them asking them if they could perhaps move their breaking news at 4 PM so they are not interrupting my Dr. Phil and too much of it can lead me to a meltdown. But I am afraid that will be so Karen of me. :(

Joe Biden announced he will cease negative ads because Trump has COVID19.

Saying this, I hope Trump fully recovers with no complications, and that he loses the election with grace, and goes back to reality television.

Trump seems to have the power to turn apolitical people to being political.

Trump tweets video touting treatment 'miracles,' intention to return 'soon':

Chris Christie hospitalized after being diagnosed with Covid

Quote:
Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie announced Saturday he had been hospitalized after testing positive for the coronavirus earlier that day.

"In consultation with my doctors, I checked myself into Morristown Medical Center this afternoon. While I am feeling good and only have mild symptoms, due to my history of asthma we decided this is an important precautionary measure," Christie wrote on Twitter. "I am thankful for our hardworking medical professionals and look forward to coming home soon."

Any chance this will work in his favor getting the sympathy vote?

I agree he will spin this into his "heroic" battle against the odds.

I looked for a Trump COVID19 go-fund-me campaign.

I didn't find any.

Trump will want to translate sympathy to votes in the ballot box

This was the silver lining that I saw instantly after the election was called for Trump that fateful evening in November of 2016. No major first world nation on earth has lower voter turnout than the US, including those nations which the US has ousted existing power structures and foisted democracy upon; which we have been doing to foreign nations for well over a century. Case in point: Afghanistan and Iraq have had higher voter turnout per capita in the past several elections than the USA. "Just because you do not take an interest in politics doesn't mean politics won't take an interest in you." [--Pericles, ancient philosopher]

My mother regretted not voting in 2016 [the only election in her adult life in which she did not vote], and although I voted, I wrote in Bernie Sanders for president, as I did not [and still do not] believe that Hillary Clinton should have been elected president. Besides, my state of Georgia voted for Trump [there was zero doubt that it would in 2016] and due to our electoral college, only the winner of the state election has any votes counted for that state for the presidency. Basically, my vote for president wouldn't have mattered any more than if I had written in my own name.

Due to unnecessarily low voter turnout, Republican led voter suppression efforts, and Republican austerity policies leading to obscene voter apathy among the young and many educated people of this country for generations; Senate elections and Electoral College votes strongly benefit the Republican party here in the US by giving more densely populated areas [whenever lower voter turnout occurs] less of a say in how our President is elected. Trump got over 5,000,000 fewer individual votes than Hillary Clinton, yet won the election, much like G.W. Bush in the year 2000, who also lost the popular vote yet won the election. Meanwhile, more sparsely populated US states such as Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, etc. have just as many senators as densely populated states such as California, New York, Pennsylvania, and Florida [rural areas tend to vote strongly conservative]. If voter turnout was higher, and remains higher than it has historically, the congress and presidency might better represent the needs and desires of our voters. If Trump had to be elected for this to actually come to pass, then that is exactly why it had to happen.

Precisely. As recently as Tuesday's debate, he mocked VP Biden for often "wearing the biggest mask you ever saw". As for Trump's [and others close to him] sickness and recovery, I've prayed for him [them]. I follow the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth, Buddha Siddhartha, and many other pacifists in my quest for inner peace. They recommend to take pity on one's own enemy, and Trump, those like him, and his/their supporters have definitely shown themselves to be enemies of mine [and others within my station in life] in my 36 years on Earth. It was not easy to request spiritual intercession on his behalf, but I did. Realistically, and spiritually, one reaps what one sows. I only hope that whatever happens to the president will make others who doubt the effectiveness of masks and social distancing, and/or those who literally believe that the pandemic is some sort of psychological operation conspiracy take a long look in the mirror, so to speak.

In the words of a wiser man than I, "Is there a place for the hopeless sinner who has hurt all mankind just to save his own beliefs? Take pity on those whose chances grow thinner, there ain't no hiding place from the Father of creation." --Bob Marley, One Love

P.S. On a personal, and WP, note: League_Girl, I am glad you have returned. This forum is a better place for it, welcome back! :-)

Very sensible outlook. I think nobody on WP wants Trump to suffer. His physician did report he had fever and breathing problems but that it's subsiding but the next 48 hrs are critical as he has heart palpitations so his body has some fighting to do.

My fondest hope is that like, as in the case of PM Boris Johnson, the experience is enlightening and humbling and allows himself and others to use it as an opportunity to grow both intellectually and spiritually. We're all human. "As it was in the beginning, so shall it be in the end."

My mom expressed to me today that she was happy that Trump got this virus and hopes his whole family gets it. I told her I think that is extreme because what did his youngest son ever do. But my mom said she didn't care and she hopes they all get it so Trump will learn his lesson. She also told me she hopes he will see how bad this is for him and how hard it will be for him to get medical insurance because this will count as a pre existing condition. Now that I have had it, it will be in my medical chart and it will count as a pre existing condition making it harder for me to get medical insurance or having to pay higher rates. This is majority of our country.

Last week my dad was saying about him "I hope he dies, I hope he gets the virus and dies from it." Then Trump got it this week and my youngest brother told him "Hey Dad, did you hear Trump tested positive" and my mom was like "wow holy moly, you got your wish."

I told my mom today in the car my daughter was wishing him to be dead earlier this month and my mom asked me where did she get that from and I told her I asked her the same and she said "from my head" so I guess she has been aware of what has been going on too. She wants him dead because she wants him out of office and wants everything to be normal again. I mean if a six year old knows what is going on now, that tells me how bad things really are if a 1st grader is aware. At that age, I was unaware and knew nothing about current events.

And when my son heard of this news, he said "yay."

People are so angry at him, they are happy he got this disease.

For the average man or woman in the street, its much harder to garner compassion when those in power who casually inflict suffering (even mental anguish) without much thought for their constituents who are hurting. So it takes some effort to feel sympathy for somebody like Trump but, yes, at the end of the day he is one of us.

Many Christian and Buddhist philosophers alike have suggested that the death or murder of violent, tyrannical leaders is justifiable, and/or that their death could be good karma for the aggressor insomuch as that they will no longer be able to inflict suffering and death upon those under their power and influence any longer.

St. Thomas Aquinas wrote that the murder of a violent tyrant would be doing the work of God. This philosophy was considered when the Vatican decided to assist in diplomatic negotiations between the British government during WWII and the German government officials in the Nazi resistance who were plotting to kill Hitler [and had then hoped to then negotiate surrender with the Allies]. They failed, of course, and only one of the conspirators actually survived to the end of the war.

There is also a story about a Lama in the Buddhist tradition who is said to have once been a slave trader. He was traveling on a large ship with many slaves and other slave traders when he had a dream vision that one of the other slave traders on the ship was plotting to murder the rest of them and sell all of the slaves himself. The story goes that the future Lama awoke from the dream, warned the other slave traders, and confronted and killed the one plotting the murders. He then went on to buy all of the slaves on the ship from the others, set all of them free, and renounced his livelihood and became a monk for the rest of his life. The murder of the slave trader was said to be justified as it kept that man's soul free of the murders he was not able to commit, and the act directly led to the renouncement of his "wealth" of human beings, granting them all their freedom.

I guess as was said in Star Trek: Wrath of Khan, "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few." If certain people dying of something they themselves could have prevented, and beforehand oversaw hundreds of thousands of preventable deaths for the sake of economic gain, then whatever happens must happen, I guess. He's still more likely than not to pull through, but if his catching the pandemic can spare even one life, from someone suddenly choosing to think for themselves and finally take preventive measures, maybe it's all for the best. As Archie Bunker often said, "Que seru seru...." :?
