You cannot travel to Santa Cruz—so that’s out.

And you probably can’t afford a plot for him—unless, somehow, Walter left some money for you.

Maybe the best thing is either cremate and have the ashes sent to you, or have him buried in some place where people who claim remains can be buried—but who can’t afford a plot.

It’s a hard one. I wish I had better advice.

I know it would be nice if the ashes were sent to me. And I would spread the ashes around Jones Beach (a 30-minute drive from where I live). To be honest, though, my wife would find this too morbid. If I lived alone, I would accept the ashes if asked.

Don’t tell your wife..

Have them sent to a nearby po box or mail forwarding business or w/e for pick up under your name vs to your home address. When notified, go pick them up & head out for that 30min drive and quietly do your thing.

If they send things to post office boxes, I’ll do it, if asked.

he has two cousins that hated him, they [according to Walter] mishandled his younger brother's remains, he said they did not place his brother in the family plot, his brother's remains are in an unknown location according to walter. i don't want this to happen to walter. he wanted to be placed in the family plot or at least have his ashes scattered around NY but i can't travel that far. i will call vital records on monday and hope for the best.

AB, you maynot be family, but friends can be family, you are the closest to him as a brother.

Please let me know how I can help, Blabbs. These decisions are a lot for you to handle on your own, especially when you're grieving the loss of a friend - and you have limited mobility during Covid. I worry about your emotional wellbeing and would like to support you through this in any way I can. Message me if you need anything. We're all here for you. @kitty, Your poem was beautiful. I'm sure Walter would have loved it.

thank you Isabella :)

It’s not out of the realm of possibility, since you seem to be his closest contact.

i don't know their [dep't of vital records, SC] rules, they might have a thing about family members only. there are lots of unclaimed urns for that reason alone, all across the country.

I'd love to collect all the unclaimed urns and distribute the ashes in beautiful locations around the world.

Dear Aunt Blabby,
your sincere caring for this unhappy, lonely man is an example to everyone here.
Thank you, from all of us, for showing us what friendship and loyalty is, even beyond death.
You are a genuinely good, real person and we all are touched by the depth of your compassion for his life and unfulfilled dreams.

How are you doing, Aunt Blabby?
I reread some of his posts;
The anger, the resentment!
Hoping he found peace.
You did your best to be a friend.
