Trudeau flees as first 1,000 Trucks Arrive in Ottawa
If I were to give an honest response to this I'd be banned.
Studies indicate a higher immunity to Covid than the vaccines provide:

Maxe, pm if you want.
US vaccine policies at the borders are Federal and exactly the same at the Northern and Southern borders as well as all ports of entry.
The Southern border is no more or less "overrun," than it has been for years. That's just right wing media echo chamber stuff telling you things are terrible because they want to paint Biden with a bad brush for presiding over the exact same border issues trump did and Obama before him.

Just as they've been trending for years. This is nothing new. It's expected - especially with political unrest and climate change. No matter who's in the White House the USA has this problem and has to figure out how to deal with it.
The nonsense BS part is pretending like the border doesn't exist since a Democratic President is in office. That's BS. The border is still there and so are all the border guards - something like 90% of American border guards are stationed on the Southern border vs. Northern and they didn't all get laid off and sent home when Joe took office. To suggest they walked off the job and opened the border is pure horsepoop.

I have the impression there is essentially no vaccine hesitancy in Mexico, anyway the US truckers' unions have apparently been able to stop Mexican trucks from entering the US since forever. So that topic is a dead end.
British may be somewhat brutish, uncivilized, (we have that reputation,) but one good thing is, we assert out rights, people don't respect government, and they don't take sh1t from government. Police overzealousness faded away, after public backlash, during the initial months. I would say most people here are just sick and tired of the neverending lockdown drama, the one's who aren't gluttons for punishment that is.
Scott Moe is a reasonable man,and makes a reasonable point. Some people are so knee jerk afraid of the right wing boogy man , they cant see that people civil liberties have been violated, and continue to be violated, seemingly indefinitely. No amount of fearmongering, red herrings bout confederate flags, overcrowded hospitals, can take away that fact.
I don't normally post in news, Politics, These threads can get quite ugly.

Yup, the southern border is not wide open.

Reading through the thread and I didn't realize that others here in the Ottawa area (IsabellaLinton) have had a situation more rough than I had to deal with, or what others can comprehend. I was deemed an essential worker from the beginning, but had a then 7 month old at the beginning of the pandemic with my wife at home watching him while collecting EI maternity benefits. She returned to work as she was essential to and the child went to daycare. Unfortunately my wife couldn't get her driver's license thanks to Ontario government lockdown restrictions for at least a year and this resulted in me driving her 20 km from our house twice a day and back. My workplace in comparison is only 4 km away from home. I dealt with this frustration for a year with what felt like no end in sight. Thankfully, she was able to get her g2 in Hawkesbury as the Ottawa locations were full once the system opened up again.
We both got vaccinated as per her job requirements. She was 4 months pregnant when fully vaccinated. She eventually had heart palpitations at 6 months and had to be given medication to get through the pregnancy. The child arrived a few days ago. Throughout the early part of this new omicron wave, I started seeing the media spew some massive loads of BS about pregnant women should get the booster and it will be safe. My wife was never pushed due to the condition she developed and the hospital staff never brought it up once on her periodic visits.
I have also seen our own doctors more or less refuse us in person visits. I have over the phone consultations about an ulcer in my stomach that likely got worse due to the stress of all the driving around and watching my credit rating slowly start to suffer due to the risingn gas costs as well as my wife taking unpaid time off when she got palpitations.
Again, I start seeing BS in the media about how much money Canadians saved. There is my frustration with the provincial level of politics and govenrment
Now inflation also got really high and federal elections back in September showed that noone really cared about affordability. There didn't seem to be any action plan. Even worse was Trudeau saying he doesn't think about monetary policy. We also get a new holiday meant to remember the indigenous suffering and our PM spends the day out on holiday rather than do what the media was lecturing us about on how to spend the day off (remembering the residential school victims). Then we go through October and now vaccination is forced on people so to speak. My wife develops her condition and now I am legit worried that when the 3rd dose is mandated that her ei benefits will be cutoff if she can't get proof of exemption.
Now to the truckers. It was already a stupid idea for the provinces to mandate hospital staff to get vaccinated. Ontario and Quebec eventually started asking those hospital staff to work sick with Omicron or Covid 19. Now truckers get the mandate. I think nothing of it at first. 10% of truckers not vaccinated seems small. Then the American media presents the fact that almost 60% of their truckers aren't vaccinated. That tells me any food shortage we see in Canada (especially remote northern communities) will be more severe than predicted at some point. This tells me our prime minister is stupid, just doesn't care, or both. Or quite possibly, he does in fact want to be a dictator.
Tl Dr. Version.
With all the frustration from these lockdown restrictions causing some health problems for me and my wife, the rising costs of everything despite not getting salary increases to make up for the costs, and now mandates that seem to make the healthcare and transport industries worse, I can say I don't blame anyone for wanting to protest.

Strawman, you mentioned Biden….not me. But trending and record numbers are increasing after they dropped last July. Never said anything about the border guards leaving their job, right wing bs, these are all your projections onto me. That is BS. Don’t know if you realized it but Trump slowed the numbers and Biden first eo removed his policies, so yes, these numbers belong to Biden.

Politifact failed to mention the courts ruled for Biden to reinstate the Trump RIM policy. There is now evidence Biden admin is still moving illegals into the country by disobeying the court order. Dec was a record number almost as big as last July which was the largest in 21 years. These are apprehensions nobody knows how many crossed illegally.

Both countries have the same vaccine requirements for cross border travel, including truckers. Why should Canada allow unvaccinated truckers in while the USA doesn't extend that to Canadians?
Why should either country loosen up mandates when hospitals are still jammed with unvaccinated covid patients? Why should Canada bear the cost of an unvaccinated American trucker getting sick here and having to take up space in a Canadian hospital?

Congratulations on the birth of your new baby, aspiemike! Sending best wishes for your little family in this challenging time.
I don't live in the Ottawa area. I co-own a property in the region but it's like a second home to me rather than my primary residence. I grew up around Prince Edward County. I'm in Montreal / Gatineau fairly often too. A close friend works at Parliament Hill in senior admin with the PCO (Privy Council), as an executive advisor to all PMs regardless of party. I also have a friend in Doctoral Epidemiology studies, researching Covid transmission and Public Health services in Indigenous communities. My boyfriend is an advisor to Indigenous mental health programs in Vancouver.
Although I don't live near Ottawa full time, I feel l have a balanced view of what's going on with the protest, on many levels. I agree with your sentiment about what's happening here, and the growing sense of frustration we all feel with the Trudeau administration and its guidance (or lack thereof) these past years.
It's a pity that being vaccinated brings no relief from any mandate. Despite being vaxxed we still can't go to restaurants or movies or stores. We still need to mask (or double mask), and isolate, and act like every person we encounter is a potential threat to our lives. All I wish is that vaccinated people were shown respect with a return of basic freedoms, instead of being treated just as poorly as anti-vaxx extremists who get more screen time (and arguably freedom) than regular citizens like you or me, who play by the rules no matter how irrational they become.
Trudeau's decision to vacation on the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation speaks volumes. I can't go to Ottawa to my summer home because of travel restrictions but he can present himself as a hypocrite to the world, showing the same disdain to Indigenous communities as he does to the rest of his Canadian plebes.
It's shameful.

He did. He doesn't have it currently, but he's doing a five day quarantine because his son has it.
Regardless, people can and do get Covid twice, even when vaccinated.
