Given the moderators simply remove the racist posts (although this sometimes can take many days to occur), some form of lasting record would seem appropriate to allow members who join after the "event", as well as those members who didn't see the posts prior to their deletion, to see the type of person they are conversing with.

I am just curious who else would want to snoop on a poster's history if they disagree with the content of their current post? Your proposal sounds like it would only benefit those whom want to conduct inquisitions of a personal nature.

I see you're new to the interet, so let me put this in simple terms:
When a moderator removes a post, it no longer appears in the poster's posting history, and so cannot be found in their posting history.

This being the case, some indication to advise people of the fact that the person is known to have posted racist material would be reasonable - In the same way people wouldn't have wanted someone like Jeffery Epstein looking after their children, many people would be reluctant to accept the words of a known racist disseminating their views on racism.

But I'm not sure why you are getting so worked up over this - none of it would affect you, would it?

No it's unnecessary because that's the moderator's job. I also think people should make up their own minds and if they wish to study the posting history of a particular member (I recall there was another member who did this regularly who is no longer with us).

We are all capable of being civil and taking each post on it's own merits.

You're certainly seem overly defensive about people becoming aware of those who indulge in racist activity such as posting racial slurs... I'd have thought that someone as outspoken on racism on this site as yourself would welcome people having some metric\indicator of those who were less likely to be against\knowingly committed such acts, so that people wouldn't risk being co-opted by them, or risk being led towards an acceptance of such acts by them.

I have nothing to fear myself. I was only curious about what motivated you to propose such measures.

Feel free to carry on

I would have thought it was obvious what motivated this, given you agreed with the sentiment expressed:

Isn't it just so irritating!

It appears this isn't her first time regarding anti-semitic acts:

Quote:
Whoopi Goldberg’s past is coming back to haunt her following the offensive comments she made about the Holocaust on “The View” earlier this week.

Goldberg (born Caryn Johnson), 66, apparently contributed to a cookbook where she submitted a cringe-worthy recipe for “Jewish-American Princess Fried Chicken,” according to the Daily Mail.

The talk show host wrote the recipe in 1993 for the charity cookbook “Cooking in the Litchfield Hills.”

[...]

According to the Daily Mail, the Anti-Defamation League took issue with the page at the time, calling it “insulting” and “anti-Semitic.” They stated, “It’s a lousy recipe with insensitive and anti-Semitic ingredients. Whoopi should know better.”

The “Ghost” actress responded back to the backlash and claimed she had Jewish ancestry.

[...]

In 1997, Goldberg revealed her religious background in an interview with Playbill and said she took her stage name of Goldberg from a “Jewish ancestor.”

She said at the time, “My family is Jewish, Buddhist, Baptist and Catholic — none of which I subscribe to, by the way, as I don’t believe in man-made religions.”

Ok so she's been insensitive in the past. What do you suggest ABC do Brictoria?

Excellent point (I completely forgot that the holocaust included other victims).

Many thousands of descendants of the "Rhineland bastards" were sterilised because they had African ancestry. Many hundreds of thousands of gypsies were gassed during the holocaust.

Both gypsies and blacks were either sterilised or killed by the Nazis because of race.

What are you talking about?

First you say that his contention that the Holocaust did not involve racism...is "an excellent point".

Then you refute what he said by showing examples of how the Holocaust DID involve racism.

Are you contradicting yourself on purpose?

You are completely misunderstanding this discussion. She said the Holocaust wasn't about racism, not that it didn't include racism. She is trying to look at the bigger picture. That's what people are responding to.

That seems to be the case, she was taking a helicopter view of the holocaust. But honestly who wants to watch people talk about the holocaust/genocide at 10am Day time tv??

If instead of Hitler, the topic of Stalin had come up then...it would be accurate to say Stalin's crimes were not about racism. Same with ISIS, or with Jack the Ripper, or the Beltway Snipers. Doesnt mean they werent crimes. Just means that they found other reasons to commit crimes than racism.

But you can fly your helicopter as high as you want -doesnt change the fact that Nazi ideology had elements of racism. So saying the Holocaust was "not about racism" is inaccurate, and inane at best.

But despite the fact what Whoopie said was dumb and factually wrong, she was...still making somekind of valid point- that I dont get?

So what was that point?

Well, ABC would (should) have been aware of her known anti-semitic (also known as "racist" and somewhat more serious that merely "insensitive") act(s) in the past, so they cannot claim to be surprised by this recent outburst (looked at cynically, maybe it was what they wanted from her when they hired her?)... As someone commented elsewhere, "It's not the first time Whoopi has done a Whoopsie".

As to what I think they should do - one (or more) mandatory course(s) on cultural sensitivity\racism, not focussed on the "CRT" aligned "structural racism", but rather on traditional (real) racism such as that which she espoused, along with one (or more) episodes with someone from the Jewish community (or ADL) as the guest to discuss how harmful words\beliefs such as she promoted are (although this, to a degree, also punishes the others on the show who understood what was wrong about what she was saying and had worked to try and correct her at the time) - And maybe she could go on Joe Rogan's show to discuss where such harmful views as she espoused came from.

Being a believer in free speech, I see no reason for her to be banned\suspended\hidden away to protect the show's\networks's "brand" - such acts are more likely to cause the person so treated to take on a victim mentality and become more committed to the words\belief which caused such an action to be taken, rather than cause the person to reflect on what they had done which was wrong and seek to make amends\change their ways.

Off Topic
Having said all that: there is also the argument that through certain prior acts, ABC's parent company, Disney, had set a standard\precedent for such acts, and so this should have been equally applied in this case (or amends should be made, with appologies included, to others who have been treated much more harshly than occurred in this case).

I think if you look at the way Disney handled GIna Carano it would seem there is some consistency in their general approach. Carano had a history of making innapropriate comments (perhaps not racist) but insensitive. Despite her past Disney still picked her for the Mandalorian. While cast in her role as Cara Dunne, she was repeatedly warned to desist from posting comments on social media. She refused and was removed from Disney.

Given there likely to be Jewish people in the executive of ABC, they would have known Whoopi's history when she started with the View. Perhaps she was warned in the past and eventually her last faux pas was the final straw. There are rumours that the humiliation endured + her age will means she won't come back to the View. The 2 week suspension was mean't to be a message from the ABC executives to "take the hint" and retire.

Are you sure Jewish people are impacted by Whoopi goldberg's ignorance in the same way as some white celebrity? Black people have never in their history subjected jewish people to any form of oppression. Real racism for a jewish person is from a white person because white Europeans have subjected jews to over 1000 years of pogroms and genocide.

I am not 100% certain jewish people really care when black people say ignorant stuff about jews because recent history suggest jews are actually racist against blacks. So I would hardly call Whoopi's comment "real racism".

On going on Rogan's podcast, Joe Rogan is dealing with his own problems on this actual topic right now

Don't know what she said. Never really liked her comedy. Whatever it was, I'm sure it was overblown. As usual. With media celebrity witch hunts. :|

Slightly different scenario as Whoopi has been a favourite target of the right for many years. But they have been forced to defend her freedom of speech as she technically has been "cancelled" which is also something they have been whinging about when they want to say racist stuff
