I was a baby too, no earthquakes up here though.

Those of us born in the mid to late 1980s are the oldest people who can't remember the Cold War.

Where was I in 1989? I was living in the same town back then that I'm living in now.

The only single major event from 1989 for which I can still remember where I was when it happened (or at least where I was when I first heard about it) was the Hillsborough disaster. I see that made it on to Time's list.

I don't remember the news about the Berlin Wall or Tiananmen Square making much of an impression on me aged 11. But for some reason the overthrow of Ceausescu in December 1989 did.

I did not expect to see the fall of the communist states in my lifetime. The downing of the Berlin Wall came as a pleasant surprise. That barrier was an Abomination. It is inhuman to imprison an entire population many of whom have done no wrong.

I was 30 going on 31. I was at my friend's house buying his shotgun and he had the news
running on his TV at the time. I stayed there late into the night as he, his wife and I watched the
wall come down that November night.

As for Communism...any system that runs on mutual coercion and mutual misery and has
poverty as its principal export simply does not last long.

Hell if I know. I was nine years old and who knows what I was doing during any of that. I certainly don't remember any of it because I wasn't watching the news yet back then.

When the Berlin wall was falling, I was working as a prep cook at a restaurant in Portland Maine called The Baker's Table. Everybody in the kitchen there was listening to the reports of the wall falling via Maine Public Radio News Broadcasts. We did the same thing as Czechoslovakia and Poland fell as well while Romania was still living under Stalinist rule, until that too fell.

Well, at least I was working...;) Was newly divorced, tryin' to find love in all the wrong places, listening to current music (I remember Jesus Jones did a song about the wal), connected to BBS's on a 1200-baud modem, on my 286 machine. 3 minutes to pull down a 640x480 pic or bmp...;)

In 1989, i was 11 years old. I remember watching the Berlin Wall fall down on T.V. on one of those news channel stations. I saw all of these people just chipping that thing away. Also the San Francisco earthquake I remember because I was watching sports news clips because there was a World Series game that was being played on that day. they showed the players playing baseball when the ground started to shake. that was some wild clips. 1989 was a wild year for news stories.

Nice to meet another person from ancient times, are you an immortal too?

Cause if you are I may have to chop off your head, so I get mad lightning striking me.

Oh, crap, heading off for holy ground! There can be only one!

So, yeah, I'm a tad older on the internet lately. So it's begun to feel. Probably because I play World of Warcraft, where everyone is so very, very young.

Still in my mom. I was born 51 days after the Berlin Wall fell (December 30).
