Yes, what is the Nobel commitee in Oslo smoking?

Anyway, I think President Obama will be in good company
when he accepts his Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo.

If the Nobel commitee would have waited another year,
then giving President Obama the Nobel Peace Prize
would have been more appropriate.

But even President Obama himself
was surprised when his daughter told him.

Where is a Nobel Prize for Mathematics? Arts? Computer Science?
Anthropology? Biology? Sociology?

I know absolutely nothing about either Obama as president or all fuss around the nobelprizes every year. I just have this questions:

Obama have been president i less than a year havent he? It feels that he havent been in his position so long. Isnt it too early to judge his work and give a fancy prize for it?
Or what amazing rapidspeed miracle did he do for the world making them giving him the prize?

In other words, what did I miss?

I've heard that it was in part because of the "hope" of a new peace that he inspires worldwide.... <.< Which is kinda true.

Mathematics, Computer Science, and Sociology would be covered under the Nobel Economics Prize.
Literature is the only art recognized as "relevant to the Human Condition and its Betterment".
Anthropology and Biology belong to Medicine and Physiology.

President Obama himself said he doesn't want it.
Google "President Obama's statement on Nobel Peace Prize win."
He says it about halfway through his speech.

Nobel and "noble" are homonyms, not synonyms.
Peace is a subjective commodity.
Prize is an award with a motive.

History will ring it's toll.

I think all the Obama bashing going on in this thread is just plain STUPID, especially considering who we are. i mean really, would you rather a third term of George W. Bush, who tried to take benefits away from those in need of them (the poor and disbaled, many of whom are ASPIES, like the crybabies in this thread). the only opposer of the nobel prize who brought up a valid point was

it seems like people have been pissed since obama got into office. if everyone is so against him, how did he win the majority of the popular vote? give the man a chance, he is trying. like xalepax said, he's only been in office less than a year.

I think the issue was that people were expecting a quick fix to the economy, and when the economy didn't recover as fast as people were hoping, they had lost faith in him.

This is the proposed reason for the prize. Someone else give some evidence for or against. I can't be bothered.

I don't think this is particularly Obama bashing but more so "questioning" the decision that the Nobel committee made here. Like has been said, he hasn't been in office that long and doesn't really have any accomplishments. In fact, the deadline to submitting a bid for the Nobel Prize was only 2 weeks after Obama's inauguration.

Now I got my own feelings about what Obama wants to do but I want to hold my politicians to a little higher standard than "at least he's not Bush" and let him do whatever he(or more maybe appropriately Nancy Pelosi) wants.
