They are the reason I have to pretend to be "liberal" in order to make friends.

A book burning is a pathetic display of ignorance and stupidity - regardless of what book is being burnt.
Stooping to hate - the lowest common denominator - what a way to honour those that died at 9/11. It doesn't matter that some Muslims and some Islamic governments are hateful and violent - instead of emulating them, people should rise above. In the past century we made large inroads in human rights - recognising that people have rights independent of their governments, recognising that things like genocide and torture are always unacceptable.. behaviours like this seek to undo all the progress that has been made, all for cheap political points and indulging in vindictiveness.

It's not a matter of being Christian or Muslim, it's just people being ignorant asshats. There are plenty of decent Christians out there that actually believe in what the Bible says about "Love thy neighbor as thyself."

Still, I am waiting for the day when stupidity, bigotry, and intolerance finally become capital crimes. Sure, that'd mean more than 3/4's of the world's population would be on death row, but at least the rest would be living harmoniously without having to put up with this BS.

Part of the problem is that everyone keeps giving these circus sideshow christian freaks the attention they're seeking. Such acts are no more worthy of consideration than the screeching of infants. These fundamentalist rejects having been doing and saying the same tiresome and insane things for years. Their petty malice is getting rather boring and i've yet to see a creative or original act from the whole lot of them.

Exactly. It's just like the WBC, they're attention whores.

I've always thought that should be painfully obvious to everyone. The WBC idiots have ear-to-ear grins on their faces at everyone of their charming gatherings. No grim and austere puritanism for them. So long as everyone's paying attention to their infantile antics, they seem to have more in common with revelers at Mardi Gras rather than some sullen and somber characters from a Nathaniel Hawthorne novel.

No more so than muslim churches having Bible bonfires. If that church wants to burn a book that they purchased, then let them do it. In the day of the computer, there can be a trillion electronic copies made in the time it takes for just one to burn. So they really aren't doing anything other than making a statement.
Just because some extremist Muslims burn the Bible doesn't mean that Christians are justified in burning the Koran. I can't see this making the world a more peaceful place. The only people who have the right to burn the Koran, from my point of view, are disaffected Muslims.

Yeah, I can see this being the last unfortunate misstep for American Christians who already have a tarnished bad rep. All we need now is random suicide bombings and Christianity will equally be on the level of of a generalized-American-view of Islam.

I personally see book burning as completely primeval. Instead of destroying books you don't like, why not just not read them? Besides, it's not like the Bible hasn't inspired grotesque acts of terrorism in recent history.

Having said that, I support the church's right to burn those books as part of their First Amendment freedoms.

This is not what Christianity is about at all and the "church" doing the Qur'an burnings looks more like some sinister cult. True Christians are supposed to be a beacon of God's love to the world. Those who call themselves "christians", but preach hatred are Pharisees and wolves in sheep's clothing!

The City of Gainesville denied their burn permit, and they would be fined if they went through with the burning.

All I can say is...this is despicable.

Despicable but not surprising. The Q'ran is the Big Book of Bad Memes. It is only slightly worse than the Bible.

Pretty sure their plan was blocked by the courts. At least I read something like that on the news the other day.

Guess they don't care. Maybe some of them will burn themselves.

City of Gainesville denies burn permit – BUT WE WILL STILL BURN KORANS

RBC Bank calls in mortgage – BUT WE WILL STILL BURN KORANS

Cottons All-Lines cancels insurance – BUT WE WILL STILL BURN KORANS

We will proceed with the Koran Burning Event, Saturday 9/11, 6-9pm, as planned.

RBC Bank called in our mortgage with a limited time to pay it off. Now Cottons All-lines Insurance has also cancelled our commercial insurance on our property putting our mortgage in immediate default. We need to raise the $140,000 to pay off the RBC loan immediately.

I hope they go bankrupt.

I just thought of something. Were these the same f***s that were burning Harry Potter books because they thought the books promoted witchcraft?

Ah what the hell. Still, at least their bank and insurance people are smarter than they are. I hope they get a shit-ton of debt. Hell, they probably spent all their mortgage money to buy the Qu'rans so they could burn them. How stupid is that, it's like burning dollar bills. Complete and total waste of time, effort, and money.

I seriously hope that a divine wind will blow the sparks from the Qu'ran bonfire and set this chapel alight, because as far as I'm concerned, so-called "Christians" who speak only of hatred should face retribution from the Almighty himself.
