Do you know the what the thinnest book in Israel is today: The Big List of Israeli Draft Dodgers.

Israel is constantly under attack by Palestinian crazies. The people their depend on the IDF to survive.

The draft is a necessary evil to insure survival.

Actually, it's pretty common for many Westernized countries to have compulsory military service among their young people. I know in Germany, conscientious objectors are allowed to provide civil service. At one time, homosexuality would get a person out of service before the ban was dropped recently. In fact, it could be said that Rutger Hauer's first acting role was pretending to be gay in order to get out of military service in the Dutch army.
