We can add the grandmother to the growing list of people who need to spend some time behind bars. Grandma needs to be taught a lesson about compassion honesty and integrity. She is blatently trying to protect a vile criminal because it's her flesh and blood.

You can't really blame her for that... she's just an old woman trying to protect her own family. Chances are she hates her grandson for doing what he did, still you cannot expect her to wish jail onto her own grandchild. Let's be real here for a moment! You cannot blame the friends and family of a criminal for said criminal's actions, no matter how vile. That's not how justice works. People will always protect their families from harm no matter what, it's natural. And it's up to a judge to see through that and make a fair and informed decision to come to a fair and just verdict.

As far as the attack goes, the video is quite a sad thing. The boy looks very helpless and is obviously very low-functioning. He's very lost and alone and looks miserable. And nobody extends a hand, nobody stands up for him or even simply yells "that's enough!" at any point. People's sadism and cowardice is staggering...

The sounds he's making, the gestures, the way he's curled up like a baby... he's like a scared child who doesn't know whats going on. The fact that he's low functioning makes it more of a sad thing to watch IMO, if that makes any sense? I dunno. It's just a very sad thing to see and peope's reactions are infuriating.

Perhaps this wasn't your intention but your posts seem to suggest you basically don't blame any of this thug's family for i) standing by and watching the child get beaten to a pulp and ii) don't blame the grandmother for making false statements and iii) seem to explain their actions because the boy is low functioning?

possibly. but the video was pretty short and there weren't that many screams, but when you're being savaged like that, and you are in that much fear, you don't care about what sounds or gestures you make. it doesn't rule out HFA.

I don't think someone with HFA or AS would react in such a way. That was a child's reaction... sixteen year old me would have at least stood up and tried to fight back, rather then curl up like an infant and make animal-like noises and growls on camera. It's very low-functioning IMO, no offense.

In any case it does not matter what he is, what matters is that it's horrific to abuse people like that.

i) Standing by is a cowardly thing to do and it is sickening. But I do not know which family, if any, was watching. I thought it was just his 'friends' watching on the video?

ii) She is not making 'false statements', she is just giving her opinion. For all we know her grandson has never been anything but kind to her, and for all we know she DID actually see him cry his crocodile tears. Naturally she feels bad for him and naturally she tries to protect him no matter how sh***y he acted and how much of a bastard he is.

iii) I don't 'explain' their actions at all - there is no excuse. I said that him being low-functioning only makes it more of a sad affair as he literally has no clue whats going on... it's like kicking a puppy or a kitten.
