I think some people who say that, might be doing so to present a "face" of "White Guilt"----and, IMO, THOSE people would be MORE looked-down, upon, by the people *I* know.

What does "white guilt" have to do with opposing the displaying of the Confederate flag on a car's plates? Those of us who are offended by it see the Confederate flag as a symbol of racism, slavery, and treason. Especially since this is being promoted by Sons Of Confederate Veterans, an organization known for racist Civil War revisionism, and who gleefully speaks of the day when the United States disintegrates, so they can finally have their own country again.

Why should a WHITE person be offended by the Confederate flag? What did YOU have to do with "racism, slavery, and treason"? THAT'S "White Guilt", IMO.

ABSOLUTELY NOT!! !
Rather than white guilt, it's a matter of keeping to the philosophy that America had been founded on - that is, that all people are of equal worth, and that no one should be beholden to anyone else. The Confederacy, and it's damn rag, were opposed to all that.

Then, why should anyone NOT be allowed to fly that flag?

I think GoonSquad has given a better, more eloquent explanation as to why than I could.

Considering Lincoln, the great emancipator, was entirely racist, I don't think it holds much water to complain about racism with the Confederate states.

Slavery? Yeah. Rebellion? Yeah. Racism? Pretty much everyone was back then.

And who wasn't racist back in Lincoln's time? That's like taking Martin Luther to task for being Antisemitic, when the entire western world in his day was.
The thing is, though, Lincoln grew and learned. He went from believing that blacks would be better off recolonized in Africa or South America, to realizing at the end of his life that they should be made Americans, and that whites would just have to learn to live with them.

The main point being you can attribute negative connotations to most of our flags.

That doesn't take away from the positive ones people use them for.

Yes, look how many American Indians were f****d over under the American flag. The partizan left, of course, refuses to take that into consideration. Apparently, it's not in the Progressive's Guide to the Universe where they can look it up to find out what their feelings on the matter should be.....

Looks like a content based restriction to me, which ought to be illegal.

Do we apply that reasoning to all flags, then, and thus ban the flying of every flag that has ever been flown by a state? Except perhaps San Marino and other microstates which haven't been noted for their atrocities...
