CNN is the last place I would go for news. And this story is the reason why. As for the ducks, I love them. they are so cute and I love there feathers. It would be easy to save the ducks as for humans its acts like this that makes me think we should just put them out of there misery!

If a house was on fire and you had the opportunity to choose to save only either a baby duck or a baby human, which would you choose?

I'd save the duck without hesitation. The duck doesn't damage the environment as much, the duck tastes better, the duck smells better, the duck is much less likely to puke on me, the duck is quieter, the duck is cuter, the duck doesn't lower everyone's quality of life by being born. There are more than enough people in the world already, it wouldn't hurt to have a few more ducks though.

You think ducks are quiet? Hahaha -- feed a bunch of them outside your appartment every morning for 1 month, and then try to sleep in. You'll see how "quiet" they are..

I didn't say they were quiet. I said they were quieter. One duckling doesn't make as much noise as a baby.

I'm not sure I believe this. If you have ever tried to feed bread to the ducks in the local duck ponds they do not let people get that close to them. I remember as a young child forever trying to catch a duck or baby duckling so I could feel what its feathers felt like. Never did get ahold of one. So I don't think a duck would just lie there and be stabbed by a pencil and it would take an exact jab to the heart or jugular to stop it with one fast strike.

Why are you trying to judge the way the universe works off YOUR experiences? Seriosly. I hate people like that. Moving on, to address what you've said: Baby ducks are slow enough for a 6th grader to catch with zero problem. A mother will not abandon them, but rather try to protect. I imagine he probably began stabbing the two ducklings. When the mother charged, he brutally stabbed it to death too.

Not necessarily. We have ducks that live in the pond next door - they allow us to get quite close to them, especially when the mother was nesting. When she was killed by coyotes, we took in and raised the surviving duckling. They'll let you get rather close once they're domesticated a bit, and once he could grab one, he could easily hold it there.

I think it's sickening that someone would do that whatsoever. Kids really can be violent, regardless of their age.

I don't have a problem with humanely butchering a duck (or other animals) for food, but this was not an animal raised for food, and is wasn't killed humanely, and the babies were too small for food anyway. The difference here is huge.

That kid needs help, he has probably been molested or sexually or physically abused.

Why do you automatically jump to the conclusion he's suffered some sort of trauma? Use some logic here: If that were the case, he'd be attacking other humans. Truth is, kids aren't sensitized to violence. In nature, they would be killing just like any other animal. Emotion, remorse, and violence sensitivity is something society forces onto us. BUT! In sixth grade, this kid was likely twelve or thirteen. This means he likely suffers some sort of mental illness. At that age, you should have a proper moral sense of right and wrong.

Actually, most start off with animals, especially small pets like cats or dogs.

Because, it's well known that torturing animals is a red flag for sexual abuse in children.

I have six kids of my own, they have been raised around animals of all sorts and had eveyr opportunity to be cruel if they wanted to, but in fact, when I have to perform certain procedures that are unpleasant, they cry or get upset and leave the scene. They show NO thrills in seeing the animals in pain. They do like to watch the butchering once the animal is dead, but I think this is more a fascination with blood and guts (runs in the family- medical).

Exactly.. your kids were RAISED around animals and developed a pack complex with them. This kid didn't and had no reason to view them the way your kid's do. It would be the equivalent of how your children look down onto insects. He stabbed three ducks, WOOHOO! That doesn't imply sexual abuse.

This kid never had a cat or a dog or had friends who did? Are you sure?

It's pretty widely accepted that animal abuse of this nature is proof that something is seriously wrong...it is not something that normal, well adjusted kids do.

I agree the boy needs to be checked out by a mental health professional. But why is this news? You have kids younger than him killing people much less baby ducks.

People die in horrible fashions every day. The duck story is interesting because it is more unique.
