Meanwhile, in reality, THIS is happening a couple miles down the road from my favourite beach on campus at UBC:
A couple months ago Justin Trudeau announced $50M in federal funding to create a nuclear medicine hub in Vancouver thanks to this progress at TRIUMF.
THIS is the most promising REAL cancer treatment progress I've seen to date and I REALLY hope they're able to achieve what they set out to.
Cliffs: Actinium 225 is so rare that only a few grains of sand worth are produced worldwide as a byproduct of nuclear weapons production. It's able to be used as a TARGETED nuclear medicine to eradicate cancer cells - even in late stage terminal cancers. TRIUMF believes they can make Kilograms of the stuff annually, w/o making weapons grade stuff. Currently, global production could treat 1700 patients, buuuuut, if we can make the stuff right here in Vancouver we could supply the world with enough to treat damned near everyone.
