I feel like part of that is due to not getting enough Vitamin D from sunlight. Lack of Vitamin D plays a part in depression. Winters are brutal as hell, and I believe you only see the sun for an hour some days.

Only thing that keeps people in the US after they have said they would leave is; money and the other country wouldn't accept them because of their immigration policies. It's very difficult to move to the UK and to Australia and I think Canada too unless you are rich or because of job.

It is very difficult to get into New Zealand for sure. I'd love to live on the north island.

Sweden is a great country. The people are friendly but not intrusive. The culture is generally pretty relaxed and it is community oriented, rather than individual oriented like America.

But Sweden has such a long dark period in winter. I am so devoted to the sun.

Were I to emigrate, it would be to a tropical location, probably in central america.

That's true, but if you'll accept the tiny summer being 3 months of 30 degrees Celsius and the sun never bloody setting, you'll be golden. What is this "sleep" you speak of?

I was on the canoe trip in July and it was very light most of the night. I enjoyed it.

Costa Rica is beautiful. I have been there twice. Monte Verde is or at least started as a Quaker settlement. The Quakers settled there because there were no armed forces. Costa Rica has caught on as a retirement place for expat Americans and has gotten more expensive as a result. But I wouldn’t rule it out.
