And now Starmer is recognising Palestine in September along with Germany, France and Australia. Netanyahu is going to force hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to seek refugee status when they invade Gaza. And take a guess which countries will be forced to open their doors to the next influx of refugees.

It's called "dog whistling" a subtly aimed political message which is intended for MAGAs, but can only be understood by everyone when they read between the lines.

But, it's also a strategy Joseph Goebbals would be familiar with from the 1930s. A form of propaganda and a form of book burning. MAGA's plan in Project 2025 to make America great again involves brainwashing the masses Orwellian style. I am familiar with this because in Australia we have it too, it's called "history wars".

effectively the conservative white power structure wants to present a solely positive view of colonial history. Dilute and water down genocide, whites only policies and slavery (yes we also had slavery too) and present a history based on heroic colonist settlers and a romanticised view of heritage incorporating manifest destiny and justice (highlight all the "enlightened" things colonialism bought to non-European folk).

In order to achieve this Project 2025 has several goals:
1. Attack and remove non-white migrants using ICE
2. Discourage immigration from non-white countries
3. encourage white migration (refer to white south Africans)
4. Push the great replacement theory
5. Make DEI illegal
6. Ban books and research projects classified as DEI
7. Remove items in museums or public spaces classified as DEI
8. Spread propaganda that is white ethnonationalist under the guise of patriotism

Museum thing in this thread falls under both 6 and 7.
It's actually nothing new

As I say, if you extrapolate enough you will always find exactly what you're looking for and be right.

You probably have no idea how closely that whole statement mirrors what you most despise would think, with a few different words inserted. You just see different monsters.

Therein lies the problem; the small metropolitan minority that is managerial/cultural/media class has such a stranglehold on what's acceptable to express, and so little understanding or willingness to care for what happens outside their own bubble, that the likes of Brexit or trump become inevitable.

Y'all love to jump up and down and cry racism at any opportunity but be careful of repeating the same slur at people over and over; eventually enough of them will believe it, and act accordingly. The most concerning thing about Brexit for me is while a "majority" votes in favour of it, pretty much the entirety of politics and media seemingly subscribe to an idea that it was not even a valid position, it was abhorrent and disgusting. So that leaves a majority with effectively no representation, and hated by politicians unwilling and unable to emphasise. Do you need me to spell out what happens next? Y'all love the nazi-comparisons, perhaps read some on nazi propaganda; there's lots for everyone, but what particularly grabs me as never more relevant is the weaponized disgust they used to such effect. There's a lot of people that think they have the "right" opinion, but in truth just follow a crowd, and that's a function of how people and societies feel function.. Everyone in 30s Germany was a Nazi, and that would have included you. Only if you understand and accept that line do you have anything like the acumen and understanding to discuss it...

Same thing with trump of course, I laughed when trump won the first time, but I thought it might be what the democrats needed to take a long hard look at themselves. But I was naive, of course. I don't think anyone in politics has that ability.

Yeah, I must admit I'm not very knowledgeable on politics so I just go by the herd really, although I'm trying to take a more centered view on it rather than being influenced too much by both the right and the left. I'm trying to just keep a balanced view, trying not to get too much emotion involved, and trying to see things from all different angles, rather than the dog whistling that seems to be going on.

Ah don't sweat over it! I'm sure I've made decisions I've come to regret more times than I care to count.

I find it difficult to discuss these things openly online because if I was truly honest there's aspects of my character and history that would probably get me lumped in with the racists and homophobes. Being autistic for me has meant I've lived a quite sheltered life and haven't spent much time at all with non-white non-cis people, even at 50yo. I have known people within these groups some of whom I've considered friends (from university, from work). Unfortunately I've spent more time amongst people who have frequently expressed racist and homophobic views. It's unfortunately common. I've spoken up against it numerous times in the work place and it's caused a great deal of friction, has left my nerves stewing on edge for a few days. There's lots of contradictions, but I do try to learn about diversity and equality and recognize the biases I have.

Trump however, does not care about any of that. He is actively doing the opposite.

I understand. I wouldn't go around calling people racists and other names unless they are demonstrating abusive behaviour such as deliberately treating all people of a certain race unfairly or spewing out untrue stereotypes or bullying people because of their colour or sexual orientation. That is not on. But like everything there are grey areas, and people like you aren't deserving of name-calling. But, yes, online is a minefield and I'm trying to avoid getting into any deep discussions about it. In fact I better quit now while I'm ahead.

There is nothing good about slavery. It is all bad, and sadly still happening.
The story of slavery is American history and should not be forgotten or dismissed.
I suppose Trump wants to rewrite it and say everyone was happy picking cotton and getting whipped.

I agree, there is nothing good about slavery. Black people aren't here to be slaves, they're here to live, with dignity and respect, just like the rest of us. They're no different. We're all one. The only group of people I hate is psychopathic murderers (to people or animals who don't deserve to be hurt) and rapists and active paedophiles who know what they're doing, but that's got nothing to do with skin colour.

Starmer: "We will recognize Palestine".

Netanyahu: "No-one will recognize Palestine when we've finished with it."

That's not reading between lines or translating though, is it. It's embellishing and extrapolating it out far beyond the words he used, and you can "prove" anything you want with that amount of artistic licence. Now, for the sake of arguement, your assumptions could be 100% nailed on correct, as I'm sure you believe they are. But if you want to convince others of a things you need to keep as close to relatable facts as possible. See, this is the problem; you're so invested in this pillock, so willing to believe anything bad you can't even see such a gross fallacy even when it's pointed out. (And by you I don't mean just you)

I'm sure there's lots of black folk who'd happily hear less about the topic of historical American slavery; would you apply the same translation for them too?

I am anti woke. Those people want to only highlight the bad because they believe America is inherently evil and needs revolutionary change. Wokeism is an overcorrection to a real thing the previous whitewashing of American history. Most anti wokism is an overcorrection to the woke overcorrection wanting to go back to the days of whitewashing history.

A part of Trumps base are racists. He is signaling to them he is on their side. That is something hate groups have said a number of times.

Is it whitewashed? What does that look like, and how does it differ from a society doing what individuals do, and not want to think too much about mistakes... Denial is the first stage of grief and all that...

Here in the UK they go over slavery and segregation etc a fair bit in school. Except of course, the bit about Britain being the almost first country to ban it. And then go around the world beating up other countries and telling to stop it too. Slavery, reckoned to have existed ever since, and it was the abhorrent British empire that drew a line under it, which was itself a consequence of the enlightened thinking and reason that was the founding of the modern western world/ideal. You lot ostensibly fought a civil war over it. And yet here we are, beating ourselves up over it

I'm not saying for second we shouldn't face the errors of the past as it's essential for progress and learning. But I'm getting a bit sick of every show on telly, from cookery to documentaries on architecture, to find the need to ram in a side story about some historical injustice or other. There's a time and place, and this isn't being "woke" in it's original usage, this is cowards all following some societal script signalling their virtue. These are people who would have been the you-know-who's... because nobody behaving exactly how they're told ever changed anything. The fight to end slavery was a radical position against the societal norm. And yet, todays norm finds a way to assume and commoditise that rebellious virtue while attacking anyone who really displays it
