OK, I've never been sure what to make of Zwarte Peit, but I did grow up celebrating St. Nicholas Day, as my parents are Dutch immigrants. And my kids find a few things in their shoes every year, as a nod to their 50% Dutch heritage.
But I have a question. St. Nicholas day on the church calendar is December 6th, and I was always under the impression that while the celebration tended to be on the eve day, which is December 5th, that the actual day was still the 6th. I have my kids put their shoes out overnight on the 5th, so that they wake up to them filled on the 6th.
Can anyone clarify?
Oh, and December 6th is my birthday. My parents always told me I was born on St. Nicholas day.
