Given the amount of loud, flamboyant, and extremely obvious events that occur as part of gay culture, a day of silence seems somewhat at odds with the concept. I was also under the impression that that fight was effectively done with. After all, gay marriage is an openly accepted phenomena internationally, many film and tv icons are now openly gay, some actively capitalise on their lifestyle/proclivities, and pretty much everyone knows that homophobia is a bad thing. I'd say thats a pretty good result for all of 30 years work. I suspect there are people getting oppressed in other ways and for other reasons that could use the help of the powerful gay rights lobby.

Ummm.... not in the US.

We have a history of killing people for being gay. We're getting better, I think, but there is still probably a long ways to go, like legalizing gay marriage and stuff.
