Everytime I'v driven through Canada the Canucks seem to be a little rude to me.
But I guess thats o.k. for them to treat me like that because I'm an American. I just figure they're having a bad day, or something. I don't blame it on someones nationality.
To be realistic, I think theres rude people in every culture.
Unfortunatly for us we've just had Bush as our "poster boy" for the last 8 years.

IMO, anyone suggesting that americans are the rudest population have a persecution or step-child complex, and have completely forgotten that France exists.

Which is really not all that difficult or problematic, considering their "usefulness".....

But Americans take the cake when it comes to being offensive and culturally insensitive. George W. Bush is the absolute personification of this. Can you sum up why the US is so despised with any other name?

You're entertaining. *pets your head*

here is my list the rudest americans
1.George W. bush
2.Rush limbagugh
3.All republician polticians besides lincoln chaffe
4.Don caceri the governor of rhode island Yes I am american
The french are not that rude for couple of reasons
1.They had the right to critisize us on the blunder of the war in iraq
2.The reasons american's hate the french is because of the XYZ affiar from when john adams was president and when napolean and some of his children pulled some crap on us but why cant we forgive them. Yes I am of french descent but I am angry at government for what they did to the native americans. The puritain's were self rightous jerks who didn't tolerate others and abused the natives I am proud the roger williams left the purtain jerks to found rhode island before it went to hell in a handbasket we created seperation of church and state and were the first to ban slavery. If anyones rude i would say it the latinos at my school because the make fun of you because your fat even if its because your not anorexic. no I am a boy not a girl but you dont little gangster making fun of you because your overweight.the 2nd rudest people are those islamic fascits do they have to do this just because they can't tolerate our difference in culture.

Spudnick Dude! (or dudette...;) I've been calling HP tech support since '92...good chance that we've talked...unless you didn't do printers...;) Placed thousands of calls...

Rudeness is a tendency not to act according to accepted cultural norms. Since every culture is different, moving from one to the other exposes one to different norms, hence the rudeness.

I've been told that the French hate us for being (well, they have a list...;) smiley people all the time. South Americans hate us because we have our mouths open all the time (they call us 'fly catchers'..;)

Not just Americans, but Canadians too, and it all boils down to the younger people.

Because of the internet and cellphones, people don't need to communicate face-to-face anymore, and after doing this for such a long time, common courtesy skills are lost, and the generation that grew up with the internet and cellphones haven't even learned them. Communicating in person is different then typing to them or speaking on a phone.

I have many cousins who are teens and they seem to prefer MSN messenger over going next door to see their friend in person, or even just calling them.

In my experience (and I have to deal w/ the general public every day at work) that hasn't held true.
More "rude old farts" than "obnoxious youth."
And I'm 44 so theres no bias at work here. I'm not defending "my own" or anything. But maybe its because the older people have learned to care less what other people think of them (I know I have!)
Or maybe they were just raised selfishly. I try to treat others the way I'd like to be treated but sometimes I just "say what I think" with no self-censoring, and it comes out pretty harsh. Maybe I'm rude too! :D
And Thank You Spudnik, I know theres lots of nice Canadians. My pen-pal (no email back in the Stone Age days!) when I was really young was from Edmonton, his letters really helped me get thru High School, so I like Canadians because of his kindness to me in my youth.

I am teen and I cant stand cellphones and instant messengers but also hate talking to people because my eyes wonder and I am not rude unless I am cranky. that and I cant sit or stand still.

After being in customer service work on and off for the last 10 years or so, I'd say it's not so much that people are more rude, but that they feel more entitled. Especially when I was a delivery driver, the more outrageous someone's demand was (to be comped $95 in food because they said the lettuce on a burger wasn't fresh...) the more self righteous they became. I had someone call me ret*d, among other things, for almost 10 minutes because the previous driver had forgotten their celery and I had to take it to him. Perhaps if he had realized I was armed, his attitude might have been different, but that's neither here nor there. I ended up telling him to go do something physically impossible to himself, and to remember that I know where he lives. He still threw the celery at my back as I was walking away. If he'd have hit me, I'd probably be writing this from prison, or an undisclosed location ;). Anyway, I wouldn't know if this is a unique quality in Americans, but it's certainly obnoxious.

everybody that I have to speak to not because I want to ,have all been to me seemingly rude and inconsiderate . and they have been people of all walks of life different races different nationalitys. in general they have been people who just don't give a damn about anyone else.

I also believe Americans I guess that includes me as I am American are getting more rude. is rude and disrespectful the same thing ? Maybe rude is being disrespectful. Maybe overpopulation is causing people to be rude. one maybe it's that people just don't give a care. No sweat off the back.
