Have you seen the new Rambo movie? The Military Junta in Myanmar leaves people's heads on poles after destroying a village as a warning to insurgents.

I heard about this. It's a sad case.

That is pretty much nonsense, and I hope you don't actually believe what you just said. "Tak[ing] the suspect down" is more complicated that you apparently think it is. He was slashed in the face with a knife and had a head hurled into his car.

If you truly think that he should be punished, I truly think that you should be put in the exact same situation so that we can see how you react.



I disagree. Life is equally important. Humans have this tendency to think that they're superior, but that's just egotistical.

Postperson - I would guess that heads are one of the most identifiable parts of the body. To remove the head is, in essence, to remove the identity of the victim. In the case of carrying the head around, it's pretty much parading what you have done and what you have taken from the victim, without the inconvenience of a heavy body to drag around.

You're reading WAY to much into my post. In this case we are talking about a cop, not an armed civilian. Someone said that the cop should be punished because he let someone get away who ended up hurting more people. Personally, were I that cop and I saw someone coming towards me with a knife and a severed head, cuffing him would not have been my first instinct. But to hold the cop responsible because he chose not to use deadly force, well I'm not the one going against my principals there...

Show me where I said that the gun is infallible. I've never said that having a gun guarantees anything, in fact I've said quite the opposite several times. A gun simply gives you options that you otherwise would not have, the decision whether or not to use those options, and how to use them rests solely on the operator. In this case, I would guess that the local police were not particularly well trained, nor were they prepared to deal with this sort of crime.

BTW, if you keep calling me a gun nut (so unoriginal) I'm going to have to come up with a far more clever nickname for you, and I can just about guarantee you're not going to like it...

I do not know if the number of murders is increasing, or the nature of these slayings is becoming more gruesome...

I do know, however, that we are reading about these tragedies faster, what with the speed of news transmissions, in part due to camera phones, internet and sensationalism. Sticking a head on a pole will just not do anymore. We have to put it on the internet, so now we are more aware of just how evil people are. Violent porn, executions, animal torture, Lulzing--these all find an eager audience on the computer networks of the world. Perpetrators find instant fame, albeit ghoulish.

I think as long as there is a desire for this very real, though virtual experience of evil, there will be a ready market for it. And for this reason, there may be more copy murders, like this Greek tragedy eerily mirroring the Greyhound bus beheading.
