His Inaugural Address was superb and moving at the same time.

Got to see it on TV after classes were canceled. Really brilliant speech. My words are an understatement.

Your classes were cancelled for the inauguration? I'm in the UK so I would have missed the beginning if I hadn't been off school, cos my bus doesn't get in til 4:30pm, and the inauguration started at 4pm in GMT.

Actually, that's not why. As luck would have it, it snowed down here for the first time in five years, so classes were called off at the last minute. Being snowed out gave me the chance to watch.

Oh, cool.

If I'd been in America today, I would have missed the inauguration, ironically, cos I sleep all through the morning on non-schooldays!

Hmmm "Our Sprint is Stronger Then Terrorism" What a refreshing change to Duck & Cover mentality of the last 8 years.

The Republicans have been giving it the big one about Obama's middle name being Hussein. But it didn't work, did it? :)

yup..got a snowstorm of our own. Place is completely shut down. Not much else on TV. Yeah, they were supposed to have all the schoolchildren watching TV during the day, then write an essay.

Should we put him on the left side of Mt. Rushmore, or the right?...;)

Well, good or bad, he'll be better than the last one...;)

Amen! (but that is not really setting the bar too high, is it?)

He wants to start using our own energy wind, hydro, solar, exc.

He wants to stop buying foreign oil and use our own so we don't fund any terrorists.

He wants to do many things and they all seem quite possible.

He wants to start working on the economy by making more jobs, by building bridges and fixing things. That's exactly how we got out of the great depression.

I think he can do it!
I feel proud of my country.

That and a major war that required that we supply arms/munitions/manpower for our own and our allies' armies. Huge industries, unhindered by being bombed to beejeezus as were our allies. The depression didn't end solely because of the CCC or the WPA....

glug, yes, Nan, I remember, I remember. Having parents that went through the Great Depression living in the dust bowl of Western Kansas and then into WWII I could never forget.
I sincerely hope not, but history repeats and repeats. . . :(

I have a feeling he's going to be the most open-to-the-public president since James Polk (who would often open the White House to the public, allowing common citizens talk to him about issues that concerned them - face to face - if they knocked on the White House door and waited their turn).

President Obama was set to sign three sets of documents in the Capitol today, aides told CNN earlier Tuesday:

– a proclamation declaring today a day of national renewal and reconciliation. The last three presidents have signed similar proclamations in this same time and venue).
– cabinet nominations
– sub-cabinet nominations

"I'm a lefty. Get used to it," Obama quipped as he signed his name. "I was told not to swipe the pen."

Senate staffers say the nominations will be presented to the Senate when it convenes at 3 pm today, and are necessary for those nominees to be confirmed by the full Senate.

Hmm ...

I'm getting the impression that Mr. Obama may be a "That's how it is, so get used to it" type of leader.

They must by now. Garfield, Hoover, Truman, Ford, Reagan, Bush the Elder and Clinton were all lefties.

Actually it was a little past noon when he became president. Former president George W. Bush officially ended his term at noon, but it was about ten or fifteen minutes until Obama was sworn in.

He stumbled a bit on the oath.... although it was John Roberts that bumbled it to start with.

Are you sure that's right?! I'm sure Bush Sr. and Reagan were Republicans. Or am I wrong? I can't remember.

A secret society wouldn't run in a public election, that'd defeat the object of the thing.
