What I am saying is probably 95% of the people who know who Greta Thunberg is, have never heard of Greg Flato. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if you never heard of him either until you found that video.

That video was published yesterday. The interviewer there mentioned that he feels he doesn't have enough information to make an informed conclusion on the matter. There is an effort to improve public communication.

Can you understand why I think it's weird that a 16 year old non-scientist who has been studying climate science for a handful of years, is out in the forefront of what's supposed to be the most important scientific event in history and is supposed to literally be a matter of life and death for humankind - as opposed to an actual scientists who has decades of experience in the matter? I find the reasons given to justify the phenomenon to be most unsatisfying.

One can learn a lot from reading the comments of a video.

Again please use science to debate not personal opinions...like talking to children

There are people here who display greater knowledge and understanding of science than you, and you arbitrarily dismiss them because what they present doesn't fit your narrative. A lot of the links you provide to back you up, suggest that you did not read the material or did not understand it.

Of course we're going to dismiss it. He failed to make any sort of point. What do you expect us to do in response to such posts? Throw our hands up in the air and declare abject surrender? All hail the denialists?

And trust me on this, in a science discussion, someone who spends a lot of time ranting about how they have the "truth" and are taking down the "liars" in the scientific community is not worth taking seriously, to put it as kindly as I can.

So no analysis of the comments themselves? No demanding evidence or clarification for them? Just taking them at face value? Come on Ezra, I thought you were "more into objective reasoning". What's happened to you?

You have got to be kidding me. You just grab something that looks good on the surface and post it, without having read it or listened to it first. That is just winging it the same as cyberdad does.

And it's good winging. You yourself said that the experts had not done enough to communicate this science to the public. Well, posting videos like this helps rectify that.

I said one can learn a lot by reading video comments. Really the word I should have used is glean. One can glean a lot. That's a statement of fact. The rest of what you said, is you putting words in my mouth.

No it doesn't. A video that most people will never see of someone they never heard of, does not address the issue of why actual scientists are not out in the forefront instead of a child who has become a household name.

The point was made. Quite clearly.
The fact that you can't or won't understand it is not something I can do anything about.

One more for something to think about. It's old, but not outdated.

@beneficii I don't know what is going on in your head, but the fact that you are inappropriately bleeding our discussion here into the mod thread, tells me that I should refrain from interacting with you any further.

Why are Solo and cyberdad arguing? The graphs seem to support the point cyberdad is trying to make with my interpretation of them.

Quite the opposite. Cyberdad has been making the claim that south sea islands are flooding due to rising ocean levels. Data taken at various locations around the islands (shown in the graphs) shows that sea levels have actually been dropping since sometime in 2007.

I'm in favor of Global Warming.

The real disaster will be when the temperatures fall as we enter the next period of glaciation. When that happens, starvation and death by starvation will become far more common as the productive ability of the Earth necessary to support a great deal of life falls dramatically.
