The robbery was from the news and is a fact,I embellished it to mock a lot of the senseless Trump blaming.

trump hasn’t encouraged people to rob gas stations or whatever.

He has taken to his bully pulpit and called Mexicans murderers, rapists, thieves, drug dealers etc and blamed them for many of America’s societal problems - vilifying Mexicans in the eyes of trump supporters.

So, there is a logical correlation between hate crimes in America against Mexicans and the president’s awful rhetoric.

Your mocking posts re other petty crimes only serves to give trump a pass for his racist remarks, pretending that they don’t influence his army of maga hat wearers to think and act in awful ways. In reality, his words matter, and they have caused an uptick in all sorts of hate crimes as he’s granted people a sort of permission to behave this way and they’ve taken said permission and run with it.

Yes, I see your point now.  Disregard anything I previously said to the contrary.

Yes, Trump has created a consummate atmosphere for extremists everywhere----that I would agree with.

But....if we start blaming little thing on Trump, there are those who would feel like Trump is some sort of victim of some "witch hunt" or something like that, and vote for him out of sympathy.

What I feel is that:

We can't keep stooping down to Trump's level

We have to not seem like we're as fanatical as the Trumpites. We have to seem like we're more sensible than them.

We have to find ways to assure people that many people will adjust to the new technology, and will not lose employment because of the transition from a 20th century to a 21st century economy.

Adults are almost always responsible for their own behavior. You run your car over someone, you are responsible and take the punishment as meted out by our justice system.

There is legal precedent for holding responsible another person who encouraged the act. The one that comes to mind first was made into a movie starring Jodie Foster as a rape victim. Loosely based on a real life case, three men were convicted of encouraging the rapists while she was on a pool table being raped.

There are cases now in progress in which people commit suicide after being bullied. Are the bullies responsible for the death?

If I buy the gun and give it to someone else who then murders another person with that gun, I can be tried for murder, even though I was not involved at all.

In the sense of this thread, I see the frequent comments by our president to degrade and demean different races, genders, nationalities of people as encouraging others to go ahead with things they might have stepped away from without the apparent support of our president.

I do believe that the move away from common decency and respect is a critical one that endangers the entire world, because the USA is so dominant and has been for so long. Our instability affects the entire world.

Kortie is right. We need more decency, respect, and moderation in the world. On all sides.

I'm not one to be political, but disrespect (and discrimination) has increased markedly in my (US) workplace the past three years or so. I and many co-workers have been impacted. Some of my co-workers have called out the current national shift in culture as a major contributing factor. It makes sense (NT hierarchy behavior). I find the quote "culture starts at the top and grows at the bottom". So there is a factor at top and here unfortunately is an example of bottom. Well, I'm doing my part as the bottom at my workplace, but I am 1 and there are Many.

I understand what you are saying about moderation, but too many people I have come into contact want to believe which side you agree with is more of a sign of a mental illness instead of how extreme you are with your beliefs.

But what does being "sensible" mean? Does that mean not rocking the boat with establishment Democrats? Does that mean abandoning universal health care, and instead going with the usual means-tested crud that still leaves lots of people uninsured and underinsured? Does that mean supporting Biden or Buttigieg? Like, what does that even mean?

I think that what he means by sensible is to atleast make a good effort to understand the other sides point even if you don't agree with it. Moderation is the key.

I know, the posts were a joke to mock off topic spammers.

What I'm talking about----solely----is that the level of dialogue has to go beyond tweets and name-calling a la Trump. And how the Democrats react to the tweets and name-calling.

The Democrats have to raise their game, too. They have to keep on putting the pressure on Trump. But this impeachment thing has the potential to backfire on them.

I hope we get universal health care; I believe in it wholeheartedly.

But the Democrats have to look like they're taking the high road, instead of going down to the level of Trump.

A reported widespread case of an ameobic illness has been occuring in a south California water system, in a rural area with a predominately Hispanic population. Authorities are investigating if the outbreak is connected to Donald Trump after several residents affected by the epidemic reported adding a cup of water to their alphabet soup and MAGA was spelled out in the middle of the bowl.

Just wanted to add that another reason the whole world is watching this is because thanks to the internet, we all have front row seats to watching the fall of the largest empire in the world. Would you not have watched the fall of Rome like a slow motion train wreck if you could have? The USA is the most powerful country on Earth, but thanks to Putin’s successful efforts, it’s now tearing itself apart from the inside & broadcasting it live in real time for everyone to see. Not sure what ppl like EzraS don’t get about this. He seems to think no one outside the USA should care to watch this s**t show, but it’s just far too entertaining not to watch.
