Looks like the Liberals are going to win, only question is by how much. Taking Quebec certainly helped them.

Doesn't matter.
This vote is being interpreted as Canada rejecting capitalism and the U.S.

Could you help me understand your view.
None of the Parties are anti-US in any way.
Also, I've never heard of the Libs as being viewed as anti-capitalist.
Who is interpreting the vote as you have stated?

You must be Canadian.

Outside of Canada the analysis is vastly different, especially the U.S. and UK.

You misinterpret my response.
I am not defending any Party nor am I defending Canadians.

Give me examples, from any source, of the view that Cdn Parties are anti-US and anti-capitalist.
I read very widely from sources all over the world and I have not encountered that perspective.
Please educate me.

Yeah, I'm definitely hoping people didn't vote for a name but I'm sure many did. He is not the same as his father was so they will be disappointed.

They probably voted for him because Target left Canada and the CN Dollar collapsed with the economy.
Canadians love themselves some Target shopping.

I guess Canada will have to wait one more generation to transition to capitalism and free market.

Canadians like shopping at US Target because Canadian Target was more expensive than every other store we have. The CDN Dollar collapsed because of oil, the Canadian economy is closed tied to oil because it is a major export.

There are no pure capitalist free market countries.

Canadians have been losing store chains one after another starting with Target.
You guys lost Best Buy/Future Shop (They are better now), Sony stores, Toys R Us (to some degree), Even some Apple stores were downsizing.

Target was never really in Canada that long. They quickly closed as the market was not able to sustain another large retail store. They should have known this as the one they replaced went bankrupt after being around for decades.

As an American (who has lived all his life at least a two-hour drive to the Canadian border), I will extend my congratulations and well wishes to the new PM, Justin Trudeau. It's Tredeaumania, the Next Generation! It's also a coincidence that the Toronto Blue Jays are in the playoffs as well, so this could bode well for the Jays.

I wish Trudeau and his new government my best going forward. :)

So how long until Trudeau legalizes marijuana?

He had better hurry, because it's already legal in four US states, and will be in another seven soon. Canada is a bit behind the ball.

Harper's hair and facial expression always bothered me

My wife is from Ontario. She loves Target here in the US, but her family did not approve of Target trying to move into Canada.

It must sting to be in the minority party when the majority party got only 39% of the total vote

A huge factor in this election was Canadians' dislike of Harper. It was as much a vote against him as for another candidate. I think the NDP would have done better, but a vote for them was a vote taken from the liberals and less strength against Harper.
Trudeau did what he had to do, he showed up and didn't screw up. Nothing more was needed.

Conservatives will regroup I'm sure.

I don't understand all this about socialism and capitalism. We have health care, which is great. But we have a market too. I think Trudeau will be far more friendly with the U.S. than Harper ever was.

Shouldn't the criteria be how friendly Trudeau is to the Canadians?
I don't know about you folks from Canada, but I'm past tired of politicians who are more concerned with their international reputations than with looking out for their country's best interests.

Well he's certainly not unfriendly.

I think I said he was concerned, not that he was more concerned.

Trudeau will be better for the US just by not being so aligned with neoconservative foreign policy, Canada should stay the hell away from Ukraine and Syria/Iraq and don't enable the American government into being able to claim a 'coalition of the willing' in such. We very much need a rebuke from our neighbor sometime so I hope Trudeau is more non-aligned, we need some sense in our relationship with Russia.
