But they never targeted a specific place....like Guam.

That's the thing, really....

So NK never had any targets in mind the whole time they were building nukes? I'm pretty sure there was a lot of concern about them targeting Hawaii before this. So instead of him making a plan to target Hawaii like people were speculating, he chose Guam instead.

Trump's response came after their umpteenth threat of using nuclear weapons against the US. I just don't get the notion that Trump started something. Or that the response to these continuing threats should have been weak and subdued. My belief is that no matter what, things were going to come to a head with NK one way or another.

But isn't NK's threat that they're going shoot regular ballistic missiles near Guam, like firing a warning shot? That doesn't sound like something that's going to do any actual damage to Guam. But I think it could be enough of an act of war for the US to go in and launch a military strike. And I don't think it wouldn't take nukes to do that.

I've read that Jong-un has been very worried about being assassinated for a long time, so it seems he is capable of fearing for his life, unlike some ISIS jihadist.

I'm not saying Trump started it. I'm saying that he has emboldened the North Koreans.

Diplomacy is often smart, often not weak.

I wonder what the State Dept thinks of Trump's rhetoric.

I just don't get that. NK has been boasting and threatening an attack for years and it's just now that they're at the point of possibly pulling it off. Regular diplomacy and other measures didn't curtail their nuclear weapons testing one little bit. I don't think being afraid to say anything to Jong is the answer. If provoking him is that big of a treat, those new sanctions should never have been put into place.

What kind of rhetoric should have been used? More weak carefully worded walking on eggshells talk?

But people have been going on and on about Trump starting ww3 since before he ever became president, so of course he's going to be the wrong doer in this.

Who knows? Maybe Trump's bluster could serve a purpose. Assisting the professional diplomats behind the scenes.

It would be nice if this were happening.

If a missile was actually fired towards Guam, we would intercept it.

It looks like congress is going to save the world!

Trump obviously needs Viagra (You can tell just by looking at him.) but I don't think there's a cure for blue balls.

We could always try amputation! :D

Kim has never been as important, relevant & powerful as he is now, and that is only down to Trump who walked straight into his trap.

Trump really is the most stupid player on the world stage.

I hear that if Guam is attacked by N.Korea it will be the start of WW3. Though that is just coming from a random internet user. It's just very unsettling and turns my stomach, even if other people may say everything will be alright. What makes it scarier is that this will only be a day from now.

My hope and prayers go out to Guam. I hope this doesn't end with the whole world ending. :(

What trap was that? Standing up to him instead of being a marshmallow? Not being afraid of him? Not trying more failed politically correct diplomacy?

It seems like the kind of leader many are desperate for, is a mealymouthed spineless marshmallow. Trump is too much of a strongman whaaa. I don't get it. But I find it amusing.

A World War requires the world to be at war. Korea isn't the world. It's tiny little country.

I do find that Trump played into Kim's hands. He gave him tools of propaganda.

Kim actually never threatened Guam itself. He said his missile will land like 15-20 miles from Guam.

I fear for the potentially catastrophic loss of human life that would happen should this come to fruition. American and otherwise. Feels strange that something like this could possibly happen so soon, in our lifetime.

I think the most likely scenario (if the missile is fired) is that the US will intercept it and bring it down long before it is even near Guam.

This will cause a diplomatic nightmare, though, should this actually happen.

China have apparently told North Korea that they're on their own if they attack first, so this shouldn't escalate into WW3 but just one nuclear bomb being dropped on a city - be that North or South of the Korean border - would be truly horrific. I'd like to think the US could, if provoked, bring the North under control without resorting to nukes.
