Jussie Smollett found guilty of fake hate crime.

The single funniest element of his story was that these MAGA country guys were supposed to have recognized him from Empire, that detail alone should have sunk the whole thing from the start.

Black Lives Matter Stands with Jussie Smollett Despite Guilty Verdict
Quote:
Despite the guilty verdict, the leaders of Black Lives Matter in Los Angeles say they still stand with the disgraced actor.
“So let’s be clear: we love everybody in our community. We can never believe police, especially the CPD over Jussie Smollett, a Black man who has been courageously present, visible, and vocal in the struggle for Black freedom,” BLM LA leader Melina Abdullah said before the verdict.
Now, after the verdict, Abdullah tells TMZ she has not changed her stance.
She says Smollett still has their full support. Abdullah says the organization refuses to abandon its people and stands

Where exactly do you think the outrage came from? imagination? Smollet may be dumb but he was tapping into responses to 400 years of hate crimes.
Based on what has been reported, the theory is, Smollett simply wanted to improve his social profile/presence to help his acting career.

I have no tolerance for "Fake News".
I am the Oracle of Truth, after all.
Consider:
He has single handedly damage his side of politics, big time.
Good one, Jussie.
What a putz.
But, yes, I do consider the possibility that he was a victim of an electronic harassment campaign influencing his thinking.

If you don't do the hard yakka thinking, you skrew your credibility.
If you let your partisan groupthink feelings dictate your decision making, you skrew your integrity.
It ain't rocket surgery. <sigh>

The problem isn't so much their hasty responces (I'd be surprised if there wasn't anyone who hadn't jumped to a conclusion based on early reporting\minimal information at some stage of their life), but rather how they react as\when information which contradicted this (up to and following the recent trial) became public - Did they double-down on their commentary\hope what they said would be forgotten\publicly revise their opinions on what occurred\appologise for their errors in what they had publicly stated\etc. given the audiences they had\number of people potentially influenced by what they say.
Simple information such as the temperature were known (or should have been) at the time, with information which would contradict the initial reporting being known within days (from memory).
Politicians play the average Joe/Josephine for mugs.
They depend on "Useful Idiots".
If people focused on critical thinking skills, rather than embracing what feels right, the politicians would have much less chance of getting away with their outrageous nonsense, Tim Flannery.
This is really embarrassing, but most politicians have no shame and simply shrug it off.
And the dummies in the community let them get away with it.
"Fool me once, shame on you.
Fool me twice, shame on me."

Smollet's decision was dumb, and he's clearly not a good actor either as his performance when interviewed by Gayle King was pretty awful. But Dox trying to associate Smollet's attempt to draw attention to himself with some fictitious demand for hate crimes from the left is scraping the bottom of the barrel.
Huh, I don't remember mentioning the left at all in my one line comment, funny that you heard it so clearly though.
My understand, as I have said above, is that Smollett's intention was to increase his public profile to help his failing acting career.
In doing this, he has severely damage the stance of the prevalence of hate crimes in America.
I am not saying it doesn't happen, however.

Ignore the facts.
Follow the narrative.

True, he was weaponising race to promote/draw attention to himself so must face the consequences (not unlike (although a different context) Amy Cooper the Central Park Karen).
I was responding to Dox's comment that the left spend their time looking for hate crimes to champion, that's absurd, most progressives want it to stop. The initial reaction from celebrities like Ellen Degeneres was because Smollet is both gay and black and everyone knows America's track record with hate crimes. It's kind of dumb to pretend the initial reaction was made up for purely political purposes.

Yes I think there are few foolish people standing by Smollet, This also should be surprising given there are still members of the black community who stand by OJ Simpson and Bill Cosby.
Seems the right love looking for scarce opportunity to stick the knife in. Seems a little desperate to me.

No surprise when there are people willing to defend cold-blooded murderers and even marry death row inmates.

It seems to me that BLM stuck the metaphorical knife into themselves (again) because that is who they are.

I think it's a little more nuanced than that. I'm not a psychologist but BLM might consider Smollet's conduct as an indication he has mental health issues which might be exacerbated if they attack him (I have read at least one black activist who thinks Smollet's "cry wolf" episode will cause the public to not take real cases seriously). Secondly BLM have expressed a desire to continue to be inclusive of Smollet as a member of the black community and to continue to provide support if he needs it. I would consider that to be a community choosing to look after "one of their own". To me that's their business.
Personally speaking I don't respect Mr Smollet as (despite the poor acting) as he planned this in conjunction with the two Nigerians whom he paid. My best guess was he underestimated the level of research needed to pull this off and the thoroughness of the police investigation.
Ironically his opportunism (for whatever reason he had?) was enabled by the Trump administration normalising MAGA culture.
A detective says they suspected Smollett , because of this ...
1. At 2am on a coldest day , Smollett buys a sandwich.
2. Then afterwards, despite a vicious attack, including bleach being poured on Smollett, the sandwich was unharmed.
So, this was the case of THE UNHARMED SANDWICH.
Jussie Smollett's Subway sandwich was key to case, ex-Chicago police superintendent says
