You don't think it will come to a military attack on Greenland. And there's the part that I think you are right. The political prize for that would be much too high for even somebody as unhinged as Trump. Trump tries to blackmail and threaten Denmark/Greenland but they are counting on that he is bluffing. For that reason they will not backdown, but keep calling his bluff until he gives up. After the Danish and Greenlandish representatives left the meeting with Trump's henchmen they were fistbumping each other.

An Economist/YouGov poll conducted January 9-12 found that 8 percent of Americans supported using military force to take control of Greenland, while 68 percent opposed such action.

Donald Trump suffers double Greenland polling blow

Sabre rattling from trump is a form of bullying in order Denmark relinquish control of mining rights. Denmark doesn't have the capital to access minerals and oil beneath the ice. the US does. Second Greenland offers a location to dock and supply the US northern fleet. I think that's trump's endgame. I think trump overestimated domestic support (which judging by polling he doesn't have) and underestimated the resolve from the Danes to hold on to their territories.

The US could blow Denmark and Germany back to the stone age. But I give the Danes some credit for holding fast to their international, NATO and EU legal rights.

While the US is busy attacking it's allies, the rest of the world will be welcoming their new Chinese overlords.

Going to war with NATO would be a disaster for the US.

This, more than anything else, makes me suspect Trump of being a Russian (or Chinese?) agent.

Russia and China are the only countries that benefit from Trump's antics, IMO. They would love nothing more than to break up the U.S.A.'s military alliances.

I would certainly believe it. Whichever way you look at it, it seems that Trump is doing his best to destroy America's place in the world.

Germany’s Defense Ministry said it would deploy a “reconnaissance team” of 13 personnel to Nuuk, Greenland, at the invitation of Denmark.

Perhaps in order to keep people from getting together, You might keep throwing distractions into somenody face to
distract them from the more urgent situation that will save them from this face throwing of stuff to distract you or whomever ? Grrenland, Venezuala, installing a communist president there ,forcing someone to give up their peace prize , etc. etc. But the real problem underlying the issues , may very well be the one throwing the mud in your face .
And the only answer is to remove the mud thrower . If you are into peace and some type of prosperity.? Which after so much mud has been thrown , Mud needs to be cleaned up.

It's not only Germany but a lot of Nato and EU countries that have shipped over small teams of military personnel to Greenland. You seem to miss the point with that. It's not meant as a defence force but to send a message: an attack on Greenland is not only an attack on Denmark but on Nato, EU and on all these involved countries. The big deterrent is the geopolitical catastrophe that would be for the US. Besides that they are also there to prepare for Operation Arctic Endurance, a 2026 Danish-led military exercise in Greenland.

Trump to impose 25% tariff on European allies until Denmark sells Greenland to US

Starting a trade war with EU is probably a very bad idea at this point. Most likely this will cause EU to finally lose patience with Trump, stop playing nice, and instead hit back with full scale EU tariffs on US and terminate the EU-US trade deal.

EU Parliament eyes freezing US trade deal over Trump’s Greenland threats

BRUSSELS — Senior EU lawmakers want the European Parliament to freeze the EU-U.S. trade deal in response to Donald Trump’s threats to take over Greenland.

The deal was deeply unpopular across party lines as it was seen as overwhelmingly favoring Washington, but European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen sold it as the price of keeping Trump onside. However, Trump ratcheted up his rhetoric this week, saying “we need Greenland from the standpoint of national security,” and has repeatedly refused to rule out military intervention.

As a result, MEPs from the center-left, liberal, green, and left-wing groups say the deal should be blocked.

EU-US trade deal ‘on hold’ after new Trump tariffs

Karin Karlsboro — the Swedish MEP who serves as coordinator on trade for Renew — told POLITICO that the deal would not find sufficient support from lawmakers.

"I see no possibility for the European Parliament to give the green light to move forward with the tariff agreement when we take a decision on Wednesday. Instead, the EU must prepare to respond to President Trump’s tariff attacks, including those targeting Sweden," she said. "We cannot rule out either retaliatory tariffs or the use of the 'bazooka' if the pressure and coercion continue.”

The EU's so-called trade "bazooka," or Anti-Coercion Instrument, offers a range of punitive measures that can be used against trade rivals that try to threaten the bloc. Among them are restrictions on investments and access to public procurement schemes, as well as limits on intellectual property protections.

The S&D's vice president for trade, Kathleen Van Brempt, joined calls for the use of the instrument late Saturday.

“It is nothing short of outrageous that Donald Trump is using tariffs and economic threats to force through an illegitimate territorial claim," Van Brempt said in a statement.

I've looked into US legal rights. The US already has more than 100 military personnel permanently stationed at its Pituffik base in Greenland's north-western tip - a facility that has been operated by the US since World War Two.

Under existing agreements with Denmark, the US has the power to bring as many troops as it wants to Greenland.

So Danish troops choosing to shoot first may also be breaching existing agreements.
