It's nice to know that this only made the news because of some crappy movie. I guess no one really cared before Slumdog Millionaire came out. Which the movie isn't that good, the plot way to basic and has been used a thousand times.

I'm imagine this has been going on for a long time now. Thanks to Slumdog Millionaire, we're all going to pretend that we actually care, when we really don't. IF we did, this would of made the news way before that movie came out.

It's easy enough to not care about the plight of total strangers in distant lands. If you lived in Mumbai, you might care.

There are people right here on WP that are being abused by alcoholic and negligent parents, there are desparately lonely aged people that post here about their little dog that was taken away by the police. There are young people with bodies that have betrayed them to degenerative diseases that have limited time to live. There are grieving people that have lost their beloved children to murder, right here on WP. I know these people because I cared enough to read their posts over the years. I might not have been any tangible help in their lives, but I have not passed them by. They are distant in body to me, but not to my heart.

One can help at any level and at any time. It's called being human.

I have heard of this practice before (deliberately crippling children so they would be more pitiful and profitable beggars) I was not aware of this going on in India but it does not surprise me.

Oh silly amitabh, go back pretending to be a son of a christian in movies. everyone knows you're a thug who works with the mafia anyways!! Besides, India is still pretty low.

the only way to fight back and win, or even simply defend yourself is to make sure the other person can't raise their hands. what are the kids in the article supppose to say, "here, take my left arm as well?" talking an enemy down never works unless they had no intention of doing it in the first place, if you shout and scream and get a lot of attention put on the pair of you the attacker might not hurt you, that is until they find you on your own and hurt you twice as much for screaming.

Gandhian Resistance isn't as easy as it sounds. It goes against human nature, but then everything that goes against human nature is not automatically bad. Sometimes holding your tongue, staying your hand, is a noble effort. But to misinterpret Ghandi's ideas about ahimsa (nonviolence) is potentially disastrous.

Jesus and Gandhi were very much on the same page, IMHO.

i don't want to offend old mr. miyagi but you can't always avoid situations or not be in the area of violence, the begger children of india can't all move away or stop accepting food from strangers.

Agreed. But Mr. Miyagi was referring to Daneil-san's situation.

Agreed. But Mr. Miyagi was referring to Daneil-san's situation.


i understand that, and also thyat the best way to avoid a punch is to simply not be there but still sometimes it just doesn't work out. what if daniel-san missed the competition to avoid the possible punch or fatefull kicks?
