Just another article about connections between the Omiconvoy, the Canadian yellow vests and more extreme far-right groups.

^^^ IMHO your cartoon is offensive. I know it's trying to make a point, but some images should be allowed to die on the sands of history and never used for any reason.

Really? Cartoon blackface making fun of a real politician who wore real blackface is your line? What is your reasoning as to why cartoon blackface is beyond the pale? (pun fully intended)

It was in reference to the hypocracy of the current Canadian Prime Minister and his personal actions, having accussed the protesters as a whole of being racist (in much the same way that some people use racial slurs and then pretend to be on an "anti-racism" crusade):

My opinion, and obviously you disagree.

Someone who has experienced racism or who is aware the black face image is insulting to their race should not be subject to the image while browsing a thread. It's that simple for me; I would never display such an image for any reason, period. If someone who is black wants to share it, then that would be their choice; they own the right, not someone like me, IMHO.

I'm not going to debate it; I have simply stated my personal opinion, which carries no official weight what so ever, and it is what it is.

Hmm, should I point out that there are no boundaries on this argument as offensiveness is highly subjective, or should I go with the infantilizing angle, treating minorities as if they're too fragile to handle an off color joke (literally) that isn't even at their expense? Decisions, decisions.

Or ... ask your friends. When I've asked mine, it's always been the same: don't display it.

I've been down that road, I'm not trying to make a decision "for" anyone. I am simply sticking to a practice I started after talking about similar things with certain affected friends. When in doubt, leave it out. That is the rule they asked me to follow. That is not infantilizing anyone; it is being considerate.

So please don't get snide. I shared a viewpoint that came from specific discussions, and I did it as my opinion, with no authority. I would like you all to consider the angle, but that is all I suggest.

Your opinion does carry weight, you've a right to voice it, and I agree with you these images are offensive but it's the same right as you have to voice your opinion. So everybody or nobody has the right to voice opinions. Offending someone is a moral issue. When these photo were taken it was a different time and context matters. The photo were wrong then as they are now but racism was overlooked a bit more during the 80's than today. Sad thing, racist is still overlooked today. Trudeau still owns the criticism, imho.

From Chinese state-affiliated media:

Wow. They cheered violent mobs throwing petrol bombs at police and vandalizing Legislative Council in Hong Kong. Now they found peace truck drivers in Ottawa “unacceptable”.

There's nothing to rebut, Trudeau wore blackface and it's fair to call him out on it. Pointing out his issues doesn't do anything to address issues with the Flu Trux Klan organizers like Pat King though; it's not an either or issue, they both can be condemned for their racism.

Pivoting to criticism of a terrible centrist faux-woke narcissist like Trudeau doesn't do anything to address criticisms of the people behind this protest. You know it. I know it. Everyone else who participates on this forum knows it so it's just a terrible attempt at deflection that no one here is dumb enough to actually fall for.

Thank you for acknowledging the sole reason for the post: it was meant to point out the hypocracy behind the Canadian Prime Minister's decisions to refer to the protesters as a whole of being racists - In the same way that I have often made an issue of other such hypocrits who have gleefully used racial slurs in the past, and yet also try to lecture others on "racism".

The rest of your post seems merely to be a whine about my not agreeing with you and your use of perjoratives to denote your bigotry regarding all those involved in the protest, and for disagreeing with your assignation of a form of collective guilt on those people who are protesting.

To help you out:
Quote:
not only are these swastika loons incredibly scarce, but even the scattered swastikas pictured at protests all seem aimed at *impugning* Trudeau etc as Nazis. This is obviously a brain-dead protest tactic. But it's the opposite of pro-Nazi: Theyre using Nazi as a term of abuse...

It's actually common among euro protestors. who talk about "pass sanitaire" as "nazitaire." That's what that bumper sticker seems to indicate. Yes, dumb. But the guy isnt like "Hooray for Nazis" He's saying that vax passports are so bad that only *hated* Nazis would like them"...

and yet, over last 2 weeks, we've all been asked to pretend away these obvious facts in the service of social-justice mind-melt...even tho the signs are basically the visual equivalent of (equally stupid) tweets accusing trump of being nazi. they presuppose (rightly!) nazi=bad...

this is why farber got busted importing his evidence of nazidom from florida: there's a nazi shortage on woke twitter. the only real naziness on offer has been the one moron with his "goyimtv" sign—and even *that* was destroyed by protestors. it's nazi social panic with no nazis

if some Indigenous/BLM dude came to a statue-destroying party in toronto with a big pic of Hitler & the words "Defeat White Supremacist Overlords," in a million years no one in the media would be like "Oooh that dude likes Hitler!" But that's how we're asked to treat the convoy

this is why I don't think the world is going to end bcuz some Palestinian-rights dude shows up at a rally with a swastika on his sign. with rare exceptions, he isn't rooting for, like, Hitler 2.0. he's comparing israel to hitler. again, dumb! but it's also implicitly *anti* Nazi

Back in 2018, when people were whipping themselves into another frenzy about the Nazis supposedly hiding under our beds, I wrote this for @Quillette about what the word Nazi means. It seems incredible that we'd need such a resource. But we obviously do.

From the referencd article:
Quote:
5. Theatrical Nazis

When I was in high school, there was a disturbed student who liked to carve swastikas into desks. When I found his swastikas, I would fill out the carving so as to turn the thing into a box divided into four sections, and it became a sort of game between us until he gave up and began restyling himself as an apolitical goth. When we both got older, I asked him about the Swastika fixation, and he confessed to me that, at the time, he really had known very little about the Nazis, but had determined (correctly) that posturing as a supporter of Nazism was a sure-fire way to attract attention. This is an example of someone who is not a Nazi in any substantive sense, except that he properly understood Nazi symbolism to be shocking. If he had been able to achieve the same effect by sketching the Soviet hammer and sickle, or pentagrams, I suspect he would have done that, too.

6. Non-Nazis

As noted earlier, there is an unfortunate tendency to conflate all manner of conservative (or populist) thought under the label of “Nazi.” This ahistorical misusage is directed commonly, for instance, at pundits or politicians who seek to limit immigration or to enact policies aimed at the cultural assimilation of foreigners. (This would include U.S. President Donald Trump, who often speaks phobic, untrue and hateful things about Muslims and Mexican immigrants.) In some cases, it is claimed that these non-Nazis exhibit behaviours that suggest them to be Nazis in embryo—because “this is how the Nazis started.”

But as offensive, dangerous and intimidating as such figures may be, they typically have little true actual connection to the set of ideas that Nazism came to represent. That’s because the Nazis who burned Europe did not seek to assimilate or exclude so-called “inferior” peoples. They sought to enslave or annihilate them.

The essence of Nazism came to be that the moral worth of a human is encoded in his or her blood according to the hierarchy of race.

Ugh, I feel dirty for playing this card yet again, but I did spend about 10 years either married to or long term dating black women, which as you might imagine meant spending significant amounts of time in that community between my social group and my in-laws, meaning my opinions on this stuff were not formed in a vacuum. Beyond that though, I don't get this outsourcing of opinion to what amounts to random minorities you happen to know, why does a different skin color give them any special insight? Do you think their experience is in some way more homogeneous than that of randomly chosen white people?
