eh, why should i care? instead im looking at all the other morons who feel the need to act upon violence over hearing this news bit. to hell with the double standards. people want others to act rational while tying a rope around their necks. this act does nothing to solve the problem, but instead of trying to battle it like any decent human would, they feel the need to become violent.

whatever. ill be in my home playing games while the rest of you idiots feel the need to let your anger out.

I don't really see much difference between this and flag burning, other than flag burning usually doesn't result in lethal violence halfway around the world. All in all, I'm deeply ambivalent on this one.

If 9/11 is Burn A Koran Day, then 9/12 should be International Burn Sarah Palin's Book day.

Can we just laugh and call it, "Sarah Palin actually wrote a book?!" day instead? I may be from Wyoming, but not all of us are in accord with the right wing here.

In the meantime, I feel that the idea of having a congregation do something so extreme is going to cause a major backlash because it hits on two still sensitive issues within the states- religion and race. However, the reasons for doing this are so bigoted. Don't attack a religion because of a few extremists. Attack the extremists and don't use the same blanketed stereotype for all people who practice it.

I'd throw a Qu'ran, Bible, and US flag on the fire not to protest those ideologies but to protest the people who place more value in symbols than ideas.

Meanwhile, we should all draw cartoons of Mohammed on 9/11.

The above are attacks against ideas and ideologies, not individuals holding them. It's as if I were attacking the idea that the Earth was flat by burning a book claiming that.

When a scientist's ideas are criticized, he finds evidence and reason to back his position. When a religionist's ideas are criticized, he calls for silencing of the critics, sometimes by death.

The upset over cartoons of Mohammad reminds me of primitive cultures that think that when you photograph them, you're stealing their soul.

I'm quite open to listening to evidence from the Muslim side. (You should see me defending peaceful Muslims to my ranting Christian friends.)

One claim I've seen lately is that the Qu'ran starts out peaceful and then flies off the wheel with calls for violence. I'll try to dig up some links for your review. I always like to see both sides of the story on stuff like that.

Maybe you can explain why drawing a picture of the Prophet is so offensive. It sure sounds goofy to me. As I said, just like the barbarians afraid that a photographer is stealing their soul.

I view drawings of the Prophet and of Jesus the same way I do political cartoons. It's not about hatred. I don't hate Obama, for example. It's about disagreement with ideas.

I view hatred of the cartoonists with the same rancor that I view opposition to flag burning. It's essentially shooting the messenger.

wow....the prophecy of max headroom has arrived. some dips..t christian decides he's tried of not being in the news, so he decides to do something silly and meaningless and BANG.....he's now a worldwide news figure who has presidents and 'kings' talking about him.

'oooooohhh, what's he going to do,oooooooohhh'. makes me want to throw up.

it really chaps my butt that 'religious' humans, struck by the insanity of religion, hate each other over NOTHING!

please, wipe each other out....please.....but could you do it without killing us lesser lifeforms, you know, us sane atheists and other animals.

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hatred

Quote:
Hatred (or hate) is an intense feeling of dislike. It may occur in a wide variety of contexts, from hatred of inanimate objects or animals, to hatred of oneself or other people, entire groups of people, people in general, existence, or everything. Though not always, hatred is often associated with feelings of anger.

Quote:
Criminalization of hate speech is sometimes used to discourage legitimate discussion of negative aspects of voluntary behavior such as religion.

Calling something "hate" is a cheap way of silencing people who disagree with you.

Now I "hate" broccoli. I hate being compelled to do something against my will. (This includes taxes and "active" regulation, but not "passive" regulation.) I hate people who compel me to do something against my will.

Perhaps I have an "offendability disability", because I'm not easily offended. Rant against my beliefs, my politics, even my mother, and you'll just see me grin at you. You've lost the fight, as far as I'm concerned.

(In fact, I was grinning for that very reason earlier today, as a ranting Christian idiot went on a rampage about the evils of Islam. Others in that forum who might have agreed with her had to distance themselves lest they look equally foolish.)
