Ooh, sorry, auntblabby, it stands for The Original Series.
It was coined to distinguish, "Star Trek--TNG," from its earlier progenitor and the acronym was meant to parallel the acronym from the second series' title.

Exceptions duly noted. Compared to where I'm at in the Seattle area, I'd still say y'all are in Red territory though. Occasionally the non-Washingtonians need to be reminded that our state is sort of bifurcated politically, since Seattle tends to get all the attention when it's really a political island in a chain running down the Western half of the state rather than the consensus of the whole place.
It seems that Western Washington is more liberal and Eastern Washington is more conservative (from experience having often been around the state, at least).

If memory serves, "Trekker," was first coined as an attempt to create a distinct noun for 'serious,' or, 'rational,' fans. Though the degree to which they insist upon being called, "Trekkers," rather than, "Trekkies," certainly suggests that rationality is not chief among their characteristics.

Personally, I like Gene Roddenberry's take: "No. It's, "Trekkies." I should know, I invented the thing." If it was good enough for Gene, it's good enough for me.

Which doesn't really have much to do with the thread, so I'll bring it back to relevance by saying that I would willingly gay-marry Zachary Quinto.

I'm incredibly impressed at what an epic fail this turned out to be.

No troll war. Cool! :D
