I'm not sure that's a great argument. Every flat mate I've had would say I'm nice apart from the last one. I wasn't abusive, but I wasn't nice to her. I doubt anyone would believe her if she told them how irritible I was with her. I know that's a lot of levels lower than what's accused in this trial, but we aren't always the same level of mentally well or reasonable throughout our lives.

So Johnny has selective victims I see. But however his ex from the 90s didn't say anything about him touching her and beating her. Just that he tossed a bottle across the Las Vegas hotel room and the fact he was jealous and controlling.

My ex didn't beat me either, but he was still abusive.

Amber may have exaggerated the abuse because it's been pointed out her photos were faked when she faked her bruises. And how can people believe her?

That's not true: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainmen ... medium=RSS

That doesn't say he hit Ellen Barkin who he dated for a few months in 1994. The accusation from Heard is that Depp beat her up severaltimes. That he left her with visible injuries several times. Barkin made no claim of abuse along those lines. And the women Depp was in years long relationships with, have said Depp did not abuse them. Depp's last relationship before Heard lasted 14 years.

Only things wrong Depp has done is toss beer bottles, slam things, and had controlling behavior as Jennifer Gray put it when they dated in 1989.

Seems like Johnny has always had a temper but never directed it at any women.

But none of his exes ever said he hit them or threaten them. Just that he had jealousy issues, drinking, controlling behavior because he wanted to know where they were and went and who they saw.

I say Johnny is only a victim of her lies.

Whether he "wins" in terms of Ms Heard being found guilty of defamation or not (I highly doubt that she will win on her counterclaims either way, but I could be wrong), I think he'll still see this as a win, given it has allowed his side of what occurred to see the light and for people to hear his account of what occurred.

At one point in proceedings, I know Ms Heard's team was trying to move the case from Virginia (where the newspape in which the article was published is registered) to California (where both Mr Depp and Ms Heard live), which would have (among other things) meant that what the public saw of the trial (and hence evidence produced) would have been limited to what the media selected to show[1], rather than what occurred here where the public was able to (should they choose) see all the evidence (as opposed to what the media spoon-fed to their audience) and come to their own, informed conclusions on what occurred and the accuracy of how they were described (in the media by Ms Heard, and on Twitter(?) by Mr Depp's attorney).

[1]

Quote:
While a loss, the British case did allow Depp something of a preview run. The London lawsuit unfurled away from cameras, and in front of a single judge who delivered his decision. In Virginia, Judge Penney Azcarate granted permission to place cameras in the court, but this was not a foregone conclusion. Trial courts in the state have sole discretion as to whether broadcasting is permitted; elsewhere, like in Florida, cameras are almost always allowed; still elsewhere, like in federal courts, they’re banned. At one point pretrial, Heard’s team attempted to move the case to California where both she and Depp have residences. Nelson said it’d be “like a coin toss” as to whether or not his network’s camera would be allowed to place cameras in a courtroom there.

Please keep accusations of a member's political leaning, or lack thereof, to PPR (if anywhere at all).
This includes accusations of binary and partisan thinking, which are also political in nature.

Thread unlocked.

I'd never seen this lawyer before (the video popped up in my suggestions list), but she gives a good explanation as to how she went from a neutral position (she planned to cover the trial from such a position) to believing Mr Depp as the trial went on and more evidence was presented, for those who don't understand how so many people could be supporting him (many of the comments below the video are also quite informative):

The evidence against Depp is pretty overwhelming. The only people who aren't convinced by it are people with pretty strong biases. Of course, that doesn't mean that Heard is the "perfect victim", or that Depp hasn't also been a victim some of the time, but the facts are pretty clear.

That is simply your *opinion*. 8)

I will point out that tossing beer bottles, slamming things, and being controlling ARE abusive behaviors, and it isn't a stretch to believe that someone prone to such behaviors could, in the right circumstances, evolve into violence.

I have a lot of experience with emotional abuse issues such as throwing and breaking things. It may not leave bruises, but it destroys a victim.

What that means for this case, I can't say. None of us truly know what happened in that marriage. But I want people here to understand that such behaviors are not acceptable and are huge red flags. If someone in real life suggests a partner is "just" throwing things, don't downplay the seriousness.

He didn’t abuse her; she abused him. Team Johnny for the win.

I would make a good juror because like Sgt. Friday on Dragnet I just care about the facts, rather than who's who. And it seems clear to me that the defendant was lying and fabricating.
