At this point, I find everything the parents say highly suspect. I doubt their motives, and keep waiting to hear that they either have a "book deal" or they have started their own "parenting organization". I really doubt that Ashley was showing signs of sexual maturity at age six. If you read the posts on this thread, you'll realize these parents are incredibly selfish, and did this for themselves, not Ashley.
For the record, I have friends who had a Down's Syndrome baby. They love her, they have spent a lot of money on her medical care, and would NEVER think about doing something like this. Granted, it's different, Down's Syndrome children are aware, and capable of adapting to their environment. But Ashley's parents impress me as being "curebies" who are upset that their child is different, and not a status symbol. They want her to be the least nuisance in their lives they can make her. I doubt that they even really love her. The fact that they are deflecting their reason for going public only reinforces my opinion. "They had to", what a crock. Check their website. It's so verbose, and tells you nothing of substance. Like what caused the initial brain damage, or how many doctors have diagnosed Ashley, whether she's had EEG's to show brain wave activity, and so on... It's all about them, and the treatment. Also the fact that they're now in PEOPLE magazine shows they're after fame and fortune. I'll bet they still haven't shown their faces, the craven cowards.
