In other words what's already going on and been going on for quite a while now.

You should be able to see that all this stuff is just repeats of what's already been said and established and adhered to.

Yes there are going to be some deniers or whatever.

The same things being said over and over isn't going to change that.

It's like people are extremely highly upset because they're not seeing 100% cooperation.

This is an assertive and aggressive virus.

We must enact assertive and aggressive measures to combat it.

Just like with something like polio, we can't let our libertarian streak get the best of us. This is not a matter of "rights." It's a matter of public health.

With the Sabin oral polio vaccine, polio was virtually eliminated within a few years. There weren't many "anti-vaxxers" in those days. They distributed the vaccine, people took it, and the disease was virtually eradicated within a few years.

Saying this, we must also not allow people to abuse power in the name of "public health."

Because you have people who don't believe what is said. You have people believing COVID is a hoax, or that it's "just like the flu," or some such thing.

You have people believing some of the measures used to combat COVID are depriving them of their "rights."

If there were Holocaust Deniers constantly harping on about this, one would have to repeatedly emphasize that there WAS a Holocaust, and prove it.

Just like there are people who are denying that COVID is a serious health menace, we would have to emphasize that COVID is a serious health menace, and prove it.

Problem is we're a lot closer to 1984 then we were during the polio epidemic.

It's about achieving 100% conformity and compliance.

Have you read this book?
Has anyone you know experienced living in a totalitarian state?

American right seems to equate any mandatory cooperation to worst atrocities that cost millions of lives. They just have no idea what they're talking about.

1984, Brave New World, Fahrenheit 451, THX-1138 etc are about what the world seems to be moving closer towards.

I can see the covid crisis being continued way past having a vaccine for it.

The same as the global climate crisis.

I saw a sticker the other day that said, "Vote now! Last chance to save the planet".

It has the potential to become an ever growing trend that each generation is going to get sucked more deeply into.

Woe unto them who stand in its way.

"Vote now! Last chance to save your freedom!" <- how about that one?
The unhealthiness of the current dispute is not a one-side problem. One side tries to scare with global catastrophe, the other with Orwellian future. Both are real problems exaggerated to the point of absurd so they can neglect the other side's concerns - and leave them unaddressed, to everyone's loss.

But.
Freedom to refuse a vaccine, plus refusal to distance or mask equals someone walking the sidewalks near you, riding a crowded elevator car with you, sitting beside you on the bus who is contagious.
And does not think he/she has anything more serious than yearly allergies because Covid19 is not real.
That is a threat to your life.
And mine.

When a law was passed mandating secure car seats to be used in all cars all the time whenever an infant to toddler was riding in a car, there was an ENORMOUS backlash, and many refused.
And got tickets and fines.
I read a ‘Letter to the Editor ‘ of my local paper.
A local man resented the law, had disregarded it, been ticketed, been fined (his wife felt the same way).
They HAD to buy and use a car seat; which they did, resentfully.
Then their car was hit by another vehicle, car destroyed, both parents badly injured, the mother in ICU, almost died.
The baby lived because of the stabilizing, protective car seat.
The father, after being released from the hospital, wrote his public letter to express his gratitude and to share with others of his previous viewpoint (regarding government control) how necessary the car seats are.
That is why we have to wear masks.
And distance.
And wash/sanitize our hands.
To save lives.

If we stay at home 90% of the time, exercise each day and consume a special diet exclusively - millions of lives will be saved each year from heart disease, cancer, diabetes, accidents and viruses and the planet will be saved too.

The key to keeping people from dying and keeping the planet from dying is by putting very strict regulations into place.

Plus ingrained full compliance from each and every member of society of course.

Only then will we be safe and live forever.

Conservatives treating emergency health measures as a threat to freedom to me is just a sign of how unacquainted they are with actual oppression.
Devote more of this anti-government energy to fighting the ways the government actually does oppress or straight up kill us.

As has been stated with the seatbelt example, there is always this contrarian pushback against regulations meant to benefit public health. Its like watching a child who is fine with doing something suddenly adamantly refuse to do it because someone told them to do it.

I fail to see how being safe around a non-sentient virus plays into anyone's authoritarian schemes. Viruses don't care about hierarchies. Wearing masks is not a sign of complacence toward anyone, it's a precaution against a totally indiscriminate, invisible problem.

It didn't start with the virus. The virus just took it to the next phase. Imagine how much more pushback there would have been if society hadn't already been nudged so far in that direction.
