It’s not like that now.No one even notices long hair anymore.Even the old codgers are smoking doobies now.

at least in the part of arizona i was in, it was still like that.

Arizona isn’t the South.

it is bible belt at least. what is it then?

Hey Mom, I found a tooth and fingernail in my pork chop

All that would be digested.Hogs ,hyena and crocodilians have strong digestive juices.Anything metal would pass through.
In your neck of the woods you would utilize a crocodile.

In smaller towns where people have moved to generally one of their biggest things that bring people together are the Churches …. And local folks whom have influence are aware of this and other . Siituations in their community that brings people together . And in their social bonding experience, I think that they revert to very old bigoted religious views ( they might refer to them as values,to disguise their bigotry) this seems to be an infection that gets into
Small towns most often. Not saying every single one , but I feel a majority of them behave that way.Even in More remote areas of California’s. And some not so remote.

a lot of fundy store/business owners with signs saying "we reserve the right to refuse service to anybody we feel like" and getting the stink eye from too many of them when i walked into their establishments. it made me never want to return to that state.

People with real life poor self images that have reverted to NT herd instinct .Maybe out of their desperation for acceptance in the herd, feel the need to put another person down, for whatever differences ,in order that they feel better about themselves and or their position (as they see it ) in the herd. Even to the point of murder at times
( possibly) .

Ah so the best way to commit suicide is feed oneself to hogs, to eventually wind up as bacon.

Considering they are all expected to give 10% of their income to the church, just imagine what could be done if they spent that money on something more useful.

If anything, most financial advisors would suggest that saving 10% would be a sound long-term plan for retirement.

It’s very possible they stared because they didn’t know you.People from out of town stick out in rural areas and usually everyone stops talking and stares at them for a moment.People that move here always complain that happens when they walk into the feed store. After they know you that stops and everyone is friendly.
