One of the males, that was caught on-camera participating in the destruction, Monday night, turned himself in, today----his bail is set at $500,000! (He busted-up a police car.) There's NO WAY he can pay even 10%, which is what is required, IIRC, to get out of jail. There is a separate protest (I THINK they said, by ministers) who believe this bail is unfair----that something more like murder, would get such a bail amount.

Trayvon Martin's mother is participating is today's protests.

A representative of the FOP (Fraternal Order of Police - police union) just spoke.....

He said he was APPALLED by the charges. He said he's NEVER seen charges of second-degree murder brought just 2 weeks into an investigation. He says he backs his officers 100%.

Someone was slashing holes in fire hoses, Monday night, as the firefighters were trying to put-out fires----he was caught on camera, and the police are looking for him.

CVS, Corporate has announced that the people scheduled for work this week, in the Baltimore CVS that was burned-down, will still be paid, for those scheduled hours. Kudos to CVS!!

ACLU just spoke.....

He said that the officers lied, when filing their report (in regard to the type of knife, Freddie had, for instance) because, nowadays, people don't think they'll be caught (meaning, the officers didn't think anyone would question their reports).

He also said people are quick at "testilying" (as opposed to testifying).

Interesting, I'd not heard that before, and if that is correct, then I have to wonder what possible misdemeanor was involved here - I mean all the things that the officers might have done seem like clear-cut felonies, and that, at least, should have been clear from the beginning.

Freddie Gray's Family's Lawyer, just spoke.....

"The 'Blue Wall' that inspires police officers to conceal, to conspire..... must come-down."
"There is NOT going to be a 'rush to justice', in this case."
"We will be behave at the highest level----and I invite the police to join us....."
"We pray that this will be a HUMAN drama----not a RACE drama----and that there'll be justice."
"The fear in this case, as has been in so many other cases like this, was that everything would be swept under the rug----there was no sweeping, and there was no rug."
"Please don't follow this family around, trying to get statements from them----please give them privacy----please give them peace."

Freddie Gray's stepfather said, in regard to this weekend's protests: "Come in peace----or, don't come at all."

Also, a reporter (lead investigator for our local news station) spoke to an expert on injuries such as Freddie's.....

She (the reporter) said that, in regard to the other prisoner saying he heard some banging, the medical expert said that because of this type of injury, Freddie could, very well, have been seizing (when they opened the door, Freddie was on the floor).

Well, see..... The charges have only now just been filed----the officers were suspended, like, a couple of weeks, ago----and YES, their charges are felonies! I just gave that information, as an aside----I apologize for confusing things.

All SIX officers are now in custody----and ALL SIX, have been fully processed.....

Lt. Rice - bail has been set at $350,000
Sgt. Alicia White - $350,000
Ofc. Miller - $250,000
Ofc. Porter - $350,000
Ofc. Nero - $250,000
Ofc. Goodson (driver) - $350,000

ALL will have a hearing on May 27th.

They just reported that the crowd (protest) is at least 3,000 people----and, is 3 blocks, long (almost a half-a-mile). They're marching to somewhere----no one is sure where, but it is suspected that they are marching to "Central Booking" (maybe because that is where the officers are being processed?).

Freddie Gray's father said he is satisfied with the arrests (charges).

Senator Catherine Pugh, said: "We should have competency and psychological testing for our officers..... to see if they are able to serve."

Cause of death?

E: so, it looks like they're charged with the serious offenses due to not buckling him up properly during the ride (I'm assuming the other suspects in the van were, which is why they weren't injured), and not providing care when they should have.

That's going to be an interesting court case, as arguments can go either way based on evidence.

Quoted from my local TV news broadcast: "died of a severe neck and spinal injury".

E: so, it looks like they're charged with the serious offenses due to not buckling him up properly during the ride..... and not providing care when they should have.

Also, "false imprisonment" and "illegal arrest". The State's Attorney said he should never have been arrested, in the FIRST place, cuz he hadn't done anything wrong. The only thing he did was make eye-contact with one of the officers, and then he ran. When they caught-up to him, they frisked him----that's when they found the pen-knife (NOT illegal), and they put him under arrest for that; and, then they lied in their report and said it was a switchblade (ILLEGAL).

That's going to be an interesting court case, as arguments can go either way based on evidence.

Well, one thing that will definitely hurt the BPD's case, IMO, is that at the beginning of all of this, the Police Chief (or, Police Commissioner----can't remember which, now) said, in a news conference, that the police were wrong for not putting a seatbelt on Freddie, and that they should've called for medical assistance, sooner. I don't see how he can say he didn't say that, now (the news conference was recorded, of course); or, say he didn't mean it, that way, or whatever. I'm thinking that, at-the-time, he thought he would sound like he was offering an olive branch----that it would make him / the force LOOK good, to be admitting to something.

Oh, I just found-out something..... When I first posted that portion you quoted, I was just typing what I heard on the newscast, and I didn't really understand why they were saying it (didn't hear all of what they said----I should've never posted it, because of that). Anyway, apparently, these two officers' charges were MISDEMEANORS (copied and pasted from an earlier post of mine):

- Police Officer Garrett Miller, 26, has been a member of the Baltimore Police Department since 2012: Charged with second-degree assault intentional, second-degree assault negligent, two misconduct in office charges and false imprisonment. If convicted, he could face a sentence of as much as 20 years in prison.

- Police Officer Edward Nero, 29, has been a member of the Baltimore Police Department since 2012: Charged with false imprisonment and second-degree assault intentional, second-degree assault negligent, two misconduct in office charges and false imprisonment. If convicted, he could face a sentence of as much as 20 years in prison.

How "second-degree assault INTENTIONAL" can be considered a misdemeanor is BEYOND me!!

Yesterday, dozens of people were arrested----38 protest-related arrests, during the day; 15 curfew-related arrests, at night. No one significantly defiant; nothing thrown at officers----there WAS a bit of property damage, though (broken car windows). Also, someone was shooting a green laser, up at the police in the helicopters that were flying-over, everywhere, looking for curfew violators.

People are getting restless----MUCH more cars out, last night----plus, it was a Friday night, and people want to do their regular weekend partying, or whatever.

The officers (3 black & 3 white): 5 of the 6 officers have posted bail and been released.

They found the man that was slashing holes in the fire hoses, as the fire personnel were trying to put-out the various fires, and charged him. Guess where he was? In police custody!! LOL

I think it's important to note that the State's Attorney conducted an INDEPENDENT investigation----independent of the police department, etc. (maybe that's nothing unusual, IDK, but everybody reporting it, seemed to think it was)----and that by the time the police department gave her THEIR investigation report, all she had to do, was compare notes----so, that's why she was able to press charges, so soon.

I must say..... I'm rather impressed with our State's Attorney (Marilyn Mosby)----she's quite young (35), and quite new to office (January 2015). Also, she comes-from FIVE generations of cops----including her mother and father, and 5 uncles----and, that could have dissuaded her, but it did NOT.

I just found the following link----in case you wanna read-up on our State's Attorney:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marilyn_Mosby

I had forgotten the part about her being inspired to go into law because her cousin was murdered----so, I'm glad I found that.
