Exactly. Trump cannot pardon himself, nor the rioters per the way it is written in the law books. Ford pardoning Nixon is a bit different than a of rioters who damaged federal/DC property among other crimes. You have to have specific names for each person pardoned and some of them have not been identified yet. Nixon only was pardoned for federal violations and the incoming administration (Ford) never pushed others for conviction on any state level crimes. He could have theoretically still have been tried later with the next administration, but they let it pass.
I wasn't talking about presidents pardoning other presidents or pardoning themselves. I was saying your claim that you need to be convicted before being pardoned is patently false. People facing federal charges can be pardoned of the crimes before ever being convicted or even being officially charged or setting foot in a court room (like Nixon).
Now, what you call a "blanket pardon over hundreds" has a name. It's called
amnesty. Yes, Trump or Biden can indeed grant amnesty (a mass pardon) to those who participated in the riots if they wished. And that's without even knowing all of their names or identities or specific crimes.
Amnesty, look it up.
Here, this is instructive:
https://www.wusa9.com/article/news/veri ... 17c01a5f77As for Nixon, he resigned before the House could impeach him in the first place, so the Senate wouldn't have the ability to try him for impeachment and that's irrelevant to his pardon. His pardon from Ford absolved him from any and all possible federal indictments he faced stemming from his time in office for the rest of his life. Nothing to do with future administrations, but rather federal prosecution. He was completely absolved.
I am curious...where do you get your "facts" from? A lot of what you're saying is not correct.
__________
I'm interested in what's true and factual.
None of these statements you made are accurate:
