the father exhibited a major facial tic in the footage of when he was pleading guilty in the court room.

it seems that he is a publicity addict, and the publicity he has inadvertently invited this time has crushed him with humiliation, and he is exhibiting facial tics as a result

I wouldn't fine them because that would hurt the children.
I wouldn't put them in jail because that would hurt the children.

I would make the father and the mother do community service on alternate weekends for the next five years.

Perhaps that would teach them a lesson.

I think you are right. At least a good part of that community service should be done on the farm were the crops were destroyed by the emergemcy/cops chasing after that balloon. They need to help the family with the crops, farm work. It will show how tough the family has now thanks to stupid hoax they pulled.

I think they should sue this jerk for every cent spent on the search and rescue effort. Most people are taught in elementary school that it is not ok to pull the fire alarm as a prank.

But if they did that then he would go bankrupt, lose his house and his children would be put into foster care at public expense, which would cost the taxpayers even more.
