Brood X hatches in large swarms every 17 years in MD,VA, DC, and possibly some neighboring states like WV or NC. They are a cicadas, but in the locust family, I guess. Anyway, people in the area would eat them in special dishes, and there were lots of recipes available about 4 or 5 years ago during the last hatch. I was rather disgusted by this but some people love it. They freeze them because you cant get them but every 17 years. Europeans like their snails, and many cultures like bugs of all sorts.
The locusts here are very large grasshoppers. I see my cats catch them sometimes, and they are often around 4 inches long. If any bug had some meat on it , those would!
