Clearlake is about 100 miles north of San Francisco. As the name implies, it sits on a natural lake. There are many creeks and canals in the area. Much of the area is wild. Like many autistics, she is attracted to water, yet cannot swim. They found her diaper near a canal.

My God, reading this, I was filled with such terrible dread for that child. I don't know how I'd possibly handle it if it were my own child, who is also autistic.

The girl actually lives in San Francisco. The Clearlake house is a vacation house. Many houses in the Clearlake area are second or third vacation homes for affluent Bay Area families. Her younger brother had been attacked by bees, and ran inside for "a few minutes". When he went back outside she was gone. The fact that they're searching the creeks says to me that they doubt she's still alive. The creeks are fast and cold this time of year, a little kid could easily be swept away.

I look up the address, on Harbor Lane in Clearlake (given in another article), on Google and it's on a promontory surrounded by the water of Cache Creek. Literally, there is only one way on and off the area by land. It's highly unlikely that this girl, who wasn't familiar with the area, could have gotten off the spit of land without going into the water. Even worse, this particular house backs up to the creek itself, instead of the shallow lagoon on the other side of the land spit. Her body could be miles away by now.

I just saw it on FB and came to post it here. This is what it said.

EMERGENCY! 9-YEAR-OLD AUTISTIC GIRL, MIKAELA LYNCH, MISSING FROM CLEARLAKE, CALIFORNIA SINCE MAY 12, 2013: The search for a naked, autistic 9-year-old Lake County girl expanded Monday to include more than 100 searchers from multiple counties, reported Clearlake police.

Mikaela was last seen in her backyard on 15197 Harbor Drive.

She'd been jumping on a trampoline and playing with her younger brother in the fenced yard. He apparently ran inside after being chased by a bee and she was alone for an unknown period of time, Celli said.

Her parents had been inside the house. Her mother called for help at about 1:30 p.m., reporting the girl was gone.

Police believe the girl is naked and shoeless. They were told Mikaela often removed her clothes when she became hot.

Police found articles of clothing in the yard.

The girl also typically wore a diaper. One was found at a nearby home, near the water, Celli said.

Mikaela is described as a white female, 4 feet tall and weighing 70 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. Peterson said police did not have a clothing description for her.

Clearlake Police Department personnel and volunteers are currently searching for Mikaela, Peterson said. Reports from the scene also indicated REACH, Lake County Fire and the Northshore Dive Team had joined the search.

Due to Mikaela's mental state, age and circumstances, she is believed to be an at risk missing juvenile, according to Peterson.

Peterson said a flier on the missing girl originally was issued as an Amber Alert, but police later were later advised that Mikaela’s case does not meet the alert’s criteria at this time.

Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to contact the Clearlake Police Department 707-994-8251.

Is there any possibility someone could have abducted the child?

The cops apparently think it's unlikely. Autistic kids can be escape artists, a commenter on SF Gate noted that a friend of the person commenting has three locks on their doors, yet their kid still gets out.

That's a horrible thing to happen to both the child and the mother on Mother's Day. I hope they find the girl alive.

This is terrible news.
The fear of that sort of thing led us to get a tracking device for our little guy that he wears as a pendant around his neck, after another little Autie that we know went missing, here's the news item about that

So know my son has this Wandatrack thing also, luckily we have never needed it but it's good peace of mind.

Chances are looking a little better that she might still be alive.

From http://www.mercurynews.com/breaking-news/ci_23238753/search-missing-autistic-girl-clearlake-resumes-tuesday-morning:

Quote:
Surveillance video has changed the focus of the search for a 9-year-old autistic girl who went missing from her family's vacation home in Northern California.

Clearlake Police Lt. Tim Celli tells KGO-TV on Tuesday that the video shows Mikaela Lynch running up the street after she was last seen at the home on Sunday. The video came from a neighbor's surveillance camera.

...

Homeowners are being asked to check their cars, outbuildings and crawl spaces.

She's been found dead, in Cache Creek.

Why are autistics so drawn to water? I've been told by several psychics (yeah I know, ymmv) that I am naturally drawn to water. I found that weird, since I can't tolerate baths/showers. A 91% drowning rate for missing autistic kids seems awful high.

Very unfortunate that it turned out that way.

This is the first time I've heard of autistic children being drawn to water, though.

I've seen "moving water" mentioned quite often in relation to Autism.
