An order was given over the Capitol speaker system to shelter in place because of an active shooter situation.

Quote:

"SHELTER IN PLACE. Gunshots have been reported on Capitol Hill requiring all occupants in all House Office Buildings to shelter in place. Close, lock and stay away from external doors and windows. Take annunciators, Go Kits and escape hoods; and move to the innermost part of the office away from external doors or windows. If you are not in your office, take shelter in the nearest office, check in with your OEC and wait for USCP to clear the incident. No one will be permitted to enter or exit the building until directed by USCP. All staff should monitor the situation. Further information will be provided as it becomes available."

Annunciator: A bell, light, or other device that provides information on the state or condition of something by indicating which of several electrical circuits has been activated.

Escape Hood: A plastic hood with a short-term oxygen supply, used when evacuating smoke-filled environments. Also useful when tear gas is present.

Go Kit: A disaster supplies kit that is simply a collection of basic items a person may need in the event of an emergency. Usually contains basic food, water and sanitary supplies for up to 72 hours.

CNN is reporting that it started at the White House and a car chase led to Capital Hill.

Female suspect with child in car targeting the Capitol with her car.

No known ties to terrorism.

A female suspect who rammed a barricade at the White House was shot following a high-speed chase that ended near the U.S. Capitol ... Law enforcement officials found a child inside the vehicle the suspect used to ram the White House barricade, but no weapon was found inside the vehicle. The child was unhurt.

The lockdown has been lifted.

Miffed about the shutdown,maybe her daycare was closed,she was just trying to drop the kid off so the politicians could watch it.

I'll wait for the official word on her motives.

I'm more concerned about the baby - "Conscious and breathing" is too ambiguous. Is the baby okay or not?

Summary of the facts as we know them so far:

The White House has confirmed that the incident began at 15th and Pennsylvania Ave NW, at the edge of the White House grounds near the Treasury Department.
Gunshots had been reported near the U.S. Capitol, before 2:30 p.m., according to the Capitol Police.
Capitol Police ordered occupants in all House office buildings to shelter in place, then rescinded the lockdown shortly thereafter.
U.S. Capitol Police Chief Kim Dine told reporters that a female suspect was involved in two vehicle collisions. A U.S. Capitol Police officer's car was struck in the second collision. The injured officer appeared conscious and has been transported to a local hospital. It's not clear whether the suspect fired any of the gunshots.
The House reconvened at 3:32 p.m. ET. The Senate is adjourned until 10:30 a.m. ET Friday.
The event appears to be an isolated incident, not linked to terrorism, according to Capitol Police.
A spokeswoman for the MedStar Washington Hospital Center confirms that two patients have been admitted - one male, a U.S. Capitol Police officer; and one female. There is no information on the age or condition of either patient.
Suspect was driving a black Infiniti.
There was a female infant inside the Infiniti as well, medical condition unknown.

No known ties to terrorism, but there are more than enough insane political philosophies in this country that may have given her inspiration.

There may be no political motive at all,maybe she has post-partum depression.
I don't think female terrorists usually have the baby on board.
Poor baby,that shows the mother was not in her right mind.
