Prince Andrew sex claim: Alan Dershowitz threatens action - BBC link

Quote:
Alan Dershowitz told the BBC he wanted her claims to be made under oath.

He and the Duke of York were named in documents filed in a Florida court over how prosecutors handled a case against financier Jeffrey Epstein.

Buckingham Palace has denied the woman's claims that she was forced by Epstein to have sex with Prince Andrew.

A prince and a lawyer involved in underage sex trafficking.
Bill Cosby, Jimmy Savile and several members of the Coronation Street cast and Jian Ghomeshi here in Canada. A lot of this about of late.

It happens.

The problem is that it's not legally trafficking, and they work within the boundaries of consent laws.

Ah ... if this does end up in court this woman is gonna have a rough go of it with facing both Andrew and Dershowitz. I don't think Dershowitz will let it go until she recants.

You have to show she was under whatever the age of consent was, which is hard when you have the words of wealthy connected men versus one women -- that's if she ever was (they're smart enough not to do that).

It's not uncommon in the upper class circles to get teens right on the age of consent to hit the "parties". No, they're not paid to do it, they're just "gifts".

All perfectly legal.

(They should push the age of consent up to 18 everywhere, but you know.)

Was she (a) prevented from leaving until she had had sex, or (b) too incompetant (say, due to age) to consent to sex? If neither, I really don't see how there could be a legal case against the men...

According to the girl in the Prince Andrew case, she was allegedly paid 10,000 pounds to sleep with Prince Andrew when she was 17. While she was legally under-aged, she did consent to the transaction. I'm not sure this construes slavery or coercion (as reported by the media) then as she freely accepted the money.

As with a question on another thread about why young girls join ISIS, teenage brains are undeveloped and they are susceptible to manipulation based on thinly disguised incentives masquerading as lavish gifts or lifestyles. This was also the motivation for gangs in London who procured teenage girls into sex rings by offering them gifts (alcohol, drugs) they would not be able to obtain financially themselves including rides in expensive cars.

By the time they realise they are being exploited it's often too late. Fear or embarrassment means they perceive they are trapped.

However, people don't suddenly become mature once they reach their 18th birthday, so the same could be said of people over the age of consent...

A lot of questions being asked, except the most important one.

Did the alleged events actually transpire, and exactly as claimed?

People seem too ready to believe any story of alleged sexual exploitation if it involves a wealthy male celebrity as the alleged offender, even when there is no evidence to support the claim, and most especially when the alleged offender publicly denies that he was involved in the alleged crime!

Why are you people so ready to believe the woman's claim and not the man's? Are you prejudiced against celebrities? Are you expressing sexist bigotry toward men? Are you just interested in seeing a wealthy person squirm as he fights to uphold his reputation?

Or are you all just stupid enough to believe every woman who claims that she was raped by a wealthy man, without her ever producing any material evidence to support her claim?

The girl has no credibility at all.

It seems likely her attorneys will be disbarred:
Washington Post story

They are launching a desperate defense, now that they realize how deeply they are in it and Dershowitz is very pleased:

Quote:
“In the end, someone will be disbarred,” Dershowitz said in a telephone interview Tuesday. “Either it will be me or the two lawyers. In the end, someone’s reputation is going to be destroyed: either mine or theirs.

“I’m thrilled they sued me,” he said.
...
“The truth is a defense in defamation, and I will prove that my statements about the lawyers are well-founded,” Dershowitz said. “I will not stop until they have acknowledged” the allegations against him are untrue.

Dershowitz also said he will use his travel and credit card records, which he said he has fastidiously saved, to refute the allegations against him.

A valid point. There has been a trial by media and yes, the public like seeing celebrities embroiled in controversy. However, as with the Bill Cosby case, the "preliminary" anecdotal evidence suggests that there is a case to investigate. Both Bill Clinton and Prince Andrew has constant contact with Epstein and were guests at his residence. The Case of Clinton there was a coincidental abrupt end to the phone records immediately after allegations over Epstein's pedophilia surfaced.

Given the Rolf Harris and Jimmy Saville allegations proved they were a callous users of young girls then this psychological profile among older male celebrities is a likelihood. I am however, a little confused about the thousands of under-aged groupies who have been sexually exploited by rock stars since the time of the Beatles? How are their exploitation any different from the girls used by Epstein??

One story I've heard on CNN was that Bill Clinton was not even present as she claims, casting doubt on the woman's story.
That said, Allen Dershowitz is hardly one of my favorite people. He gives whores a bad name.
