Not too long ago Australia revealed it's budget for 2015.

When passed into law all digital goods and services will now be taxed with the Goods and Services Tax (GST) that their physical counterparts already have.

This applies to all digital goods and services including Amazon, Netflix, and foreign purchases made online.

Quote:
Australia’s GST system will take another step into the 21st century by applying GST to digital products and services sold to people in Australia, including e-books, music, movies and consulting advice bought online from overseas suppliers. Similar laws exist in other OECD countries. It means that local companies, who do collect GST, will no longer be disadvantaged compared to their international competitors.

GST tax current stand at 10%.

Australia will finally be caught up to the rest of the world in terms of online shopping.

Not the only interesting piece of news from the Australian budget:

Maybe their economy isn't as robust as it was a while back, when China was devouring everything their mining industry could produce?

the tax on deposits scheme will spread worldwide, mark my words and then the 'bail-in' will occur
