Apparently, the FDA is not all it's cracked up to be.

Thanks for the link,I work in Pet Smart Hotel and they pulled all the Science Diet wet food but dont seem to be following the rest of possible contaminents....I am trying to watch it when I feed them but we feed a lot of Science Diet dry(get it free). Not sure what to do about this, but so far all animals have been fine, none sick.

On a side note,Ilike PETA,but how can you look at this site and not want to slit your wrists...this is so frustrating and depressing.Glad some people are strong enough to do it.

I agree about the P.E.T.A site. I just followed the link from a newsletter, and tried not to look at or read anything else except for the pet food recall info. It's truly heartbreaking what people will do for a buck!

Supposedly all Science Diet dry (with the exception of Prescription Diet dry) has been tested and all checked out fine. But it still worries me that they didn't do a thorough enough check, since Peta mentions something about excess Vitamin D and they were apparently only searching for contaminated gluten. Arrggghh. I was one of the lucky ones. I'd been feeding Audrey the exact wet Science Diet that was contaminated, because it was the only way to get her to take that cosequin joint supplement powder she needs. She stopped eating the food about six weeks ago, just started walking away from it, when before she'd race to the plate! I can't believe how fortunate we are that she's a picky eater!! :):) Don't know what I'd do if I lost her, my aspie Siamese daughter!!

I would steer clear of ALL of their products, until they announce that the problem has been 100% cleared up. If your pet acts sick, take them to the vet immediately!

You are basing a claim that the FDA is "Not all it's cracked up to be", based on a statement by those conspiracy theorists over at PETA?

No, I'm basing it on a long history of similar incidents with the FDA, such as approving certain products, and then recalling them, or giving the all clear when it wasn't actually safe. Some products that come to mind are Equal and Splenda. These products were approved at first, and then later information came to light that there were significant health risks associated with their use.
This is my first time visiting the PETA website, and I always do my own research before drawing any conclusions.

There are better sites out there processing pet news. Peta is a political machine and have a certain agenda. They are using the food recall problem to undermine the pet industry and lifestyle. They are claiming to sympathize with pets, but in fact don't.

I think the problem right now with the pet food is that of customs and brand name. (that is, why are so many different companies selling the same product with different names and prices?) I think we have a serious communication problem with our food producers and I hope this opens a lot of eyes and ears.

I agree.
