Why can't people do the socially responsible thing and do their drinking at home? I like beer and wine as much as the next person, but I don't get inebriated or even severely buzzed if I am out to dinner or whatever. :x So now three innocents are dead and many other people are effected because this individual obviously doesn't give a s**t about anyone but herself.

It's unfortunate that this happened, but given this happened in Oklahoma, it's not surprising that law enforcement didn't stop this from happening in the first place. :x

I know, let's bash Oklahoma!
This kind of thing happens everywhere. I would imagine it would be more likely to happen in some place like California, where people for the most part don't seem to care about others.

So people aren't killed by drunk drivers in other states? Are you saying something like this would only be possible in Oklahoma?

And how would they have stopped it from happening?

Yet another case of where the first thing people throw out is " Why didn't the government do something?!". Why didn't this woman do the socially responsible thing and not drive drunk. And if she was partying with some one else, why didn't they take her keys away or something? :x

^Incidents like this are going to slip through the cracks sometimes. They won't ban cars, they've already unsuccessfully tried to ban booze, and DUI is almost a hanging offense as it is.

Even though these statistics are from 2013, the states most likely where someone will get arrested for driving drunk would be: North Dakota, South Dakota, Colorado, Arizona, and Kentucky.

Because people who drive drunk are just idiots who think they can get away with it.

It is a societal effect, at least partly.

Out of all the people i know (since leaving high school, i had no choice there), noone will ever drive drunk: 2/3s of them (including me) will not drink unless they are 100% sure they don't need to drive anymore that day, and the rest only has 1 drink.
Also, it is common practice to check someones state and plans if you see them handling car keys less than an hour since they last held alcohol (whether they drunk any is which is being checked, just to make sure)

For the record, she was not drunk. She was just another homicidal nut job who slipped through the cracks of the American mental health system.
