even allowing for exchange rates, are you sure that's not a typo? Should it be $21/day ?

For an adult with no dependents that maybe right. I knew an old homeless alcholic(mentaly disabled to) man that I gave money to and he got an SSI check for about $600 a month. So no way does an adult get that much in food stamps. Oh this guy
was too rich for food stamps

monthly ? Benefits are paid monthly!?
Our Social Security (called Centrelink) makes fortnightly payments. A month is a long long time between payments and much harder to budget for.
At the moment, I receive $0.00 from the government in any and all forms, but there was a time I relied on some government assistance. I can remember "hanging out" for paydays.

Yeah by the end of the month that homeless guy was out of money and no way to
buy food (malt liquor
) untill I stepped in. I think I gave him several hundred dollars over the years. (homeless people use to live across the street from where I worked).
