This story is only like 10 minutes old on MSN so it's likely to change:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18233965/

Quote:
A building at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston was evacuated Friday amid reports that an armed person was barricaded there, the space agency said.

NASA security personnel as well as Houston police responded to "a report about a person with a weapon" at Building 44 on the space center's campus, agency spokeswoman Lynette Madison told MSNBC.com. There were indications that a NASA contract worker was holed up inside the building.

Madison said that personnel were evacuated from the building, and that the situation was "ongoing." Police commandos surrounded the building.

Articles now saying the gunman may have been shot. Possible attempt to commit suicide by police. Barricaded himself in building 44. (Conspiracy buffs should have a field day with that bit. "Everyone knows" what goes on in building 44.)

My sister visited NASA Houston center not to long ago. She said they had some dumb way to keep track of visitors by handing you a ticket that were all passed back in without counting people for each ticket. So their security sucks.

I thought from the article that it was some disgruntled employee or something like that. While it may be that their security sucks for visiting, I'd think an employee would have to pass a background check.

Oh wait, maybe not. Lisa Nowak worked there.

I work only a few blocks from NASA, and I am sure that everyone at work will be talking about it.

Didn't he spend most of his life in Texas though? He certainly identifies himself as a Texan...and I saw a picture of a house he and his family lived in when he was a child or teenager, and it was somewhere in Texas.

George W. Bush moved to Texas in 1977 when entering the oil business, and shortly thereafter courted and married Laura Welch. He certainly seems to identified himself with Texas more then his father, who has involvements with the state. He was born in Connecticut.

Seriously of course I'm sorry about what happened.

That said:

Inappropriate humour (but hey, this is WP so what the hell):

Quote:
The suspect blamed Mr Beverly for being responsible for his negative job-performance situation.

It evacuated some employees in the building when the situation occurred.

With a nod to Paul Fussell in Class...

If I had to work someplace that talked to me in that corporate gobbledygook (stilted crap) I'd be tempted to pick off a few people myself.

My life isn't perfect (same old AS story) but at least I'm free and don't have to put up with that.
