Ahmed Mohamed returns to Texas
“I want to help change Texas for a better state, and I hope that not just for Texas, but the entire world,” Ahmed said this week from Irving, where he's returned for the summer. “People sometimes don’t want to admit their mistakes, and sometimes the best thing to do is to help them change.”
Ahmed Mohamed, the Muslim teenager who was suspended for bringing
a homemade clock to school in Irving, poses for a photograph at his home
in Irving.
People are not statistics.
What they did to that kid was fear-driven (in the most charitable interpretation) and wrong.
In this day and age, I can understand being cautious of anyone bringing a home-made mechanism anywhere.
But methinks they would have been more willing to accept that it was a clock when it was demonstrated to be, in fact, a clock if the student in question had been white, Christian, and NT (because yeah, they'd be quick to assume that one of 'us' had made a bomb too).

Statistics do not justify blind racism. And that's exactly what this was, a case of racial profiling. Even after the police realized Ahmed had done nothing wrong, they still tried to pressure him into giving a false confession to his non-existent crime. They were ready to slap an innocent child with a criminal record just to save themselves a bit of well-deserved shame.
This "Clock Kid" scandal has truly bared the ugly face of institutional racism in our law enforcement. We have to face the fact that the biggest proponents of racism in American society are not the Ku Klux Klan, nor neo-nazis, nor trailer park hillbillies with big guns and small minds; it's our very own police who, having been entrusted with ensuring our safety, have betrayed that trust time and time again.
Ahmed needs to get over it, I am pretty sure the whole ordeal was orchestrated to be as provocative as possible. $15 mil for this nonsense, what a horrible hateful country where you become wildly rich beyond anyone's dreams because your parents sent you to school with a mechanical box and screamed 'RACISM!' when the stupid faculty reacted the same way they do with everybody under a zero tolerance policy. With the way cops and school administration treated me, I'm owed at least a couple mil right? People get their panties in a bunch about 'Islamophobia' but zero tolerance is the real problem and it's ruined the lives of a lot of people that don't have some brigade to call to their rescue.
btw I was booked, handcuffed, and fingerprinted because I was late for school and the cops caught me outside one time when I was 12 or 13. Multiple cops man handled me, threatened me with mace, made fun of my hair, and threw me in the back of a paddy wagon. I didn't get suspended because the school knew it was a big mistake, if only my skin was browner and my parents more litigious I could be living the easy life. I really hope poor Ahmed was able to survive his ordeal without any traumatic stress. I guess I didn't look enough like one of Obama's sons to get any sympathy.

I dont' agree with a lot of what you say but this I sort of agree. The problem with US cops goes far far beyond racism.
We have a problem with bully cops in the US. Those cops might have treated a white person the exact same way. And I suppose this makes a bigot against cops. Oh well, so be it.
Funny, a fake bomb maker here in podunk, got a 13 yr old got 3 years in juvie. And that was before it was even so scary. Oh, gee, but he "White", redneck and poor family. It also was a "project" and it barely hit local news.
Screw that kid! He was being a smarmy jerk, he knew the reaction it would get. He got off because his parents could scream racism and get top legal help. He should not get another second of media time.
I also hope they are deported if not properly vetted legal immigrants.

Creating a 'hoax bomb' is also illegal in Texas, it does not need to be a real bomb only have the appearance of one and considering multiple teachers told the kid it looked like a bomb and to put it away. I don't think this kid and his parents were so stupid and naive to think a countdown clock in a briefcase wouldn't make people think bomb, I can't believe they got $15,000,000 while the taxpayer and the little children suffer in that school district. The ONLY reason he got any attention was because he was Muslim and his parents made a stink about it, any other kid would of probably actually been charged and sent to juvie. That clock he "made" could very easily be made into a real bomb, how do you think the real thing is made? All that is really missing is the charge. Look up a briefcase or suitcase bomb, that is essentially what he made minus the explosive material. He was just making a briefcase to tell time, totally innocent and clueless of the world! Give me a break!
If you were truly integrated, to the extent that people from other races were comfortable and frank with you, you would find that everyone is on the same page, socially-speaking. Your speech codes are self-imposed; they use the same basic expressions, and have the same basic opinions, as conservative, white people.
This is an act of provocation, and intelligent foreigners can see it as such.
You shouldn't want to see someone, who looks like you, making so much trouble.
The chair(s) in the pic look much like thrones. He's wearing a n- rich expression, like the cat that ate the canary.
It wasn't a "hoax bomb". It was a home-made digital alarm clock. Racist people who saw a Muslim kid carrying a home-made digital alarm clock over-reacted and decided to "make an example" of him in order to spread fear and hatred among the general population.

What do you think a hoax bomb is? It is Texas law by the way that makes that illegal, it's not just illegal if the Muslim kid does it. $15m well deserved eh? The only thing really needed to turn that 'clock' into a bomb was a charge, it would be like walking around in public with a decommissioned grenade.
Muslims are only 1% of the US population.
Yet they cause much carnage.
Statistics do not justify blind racism.
Statistics show us the truth of the world.
They give us advance knowledge of what will happen.
People think you are foolish if you ignore statistics, like walking around Detroit thinking, "I can't pre-judge black people based on the high crime statistics". Locals would think you're foolish.

Did he let everyone know it wasn't a bomb though? Was there any valid reason to suspect it might be a bomb?
The fact that Ahmed Mohammed consistently used the word "clock" to describe his creation, plus several witnesses alleging that they heard the alarm beep during class, should have clued authorities in that it was, in fact, a harmless alarm clock.
(every Texas police officer's greatest fear)
Sometimes, people get wrongfully arrested due to misunderstandings. That can happen to anyone. But in Ahmed's case, there was no room for misunderstanding, no excuse for the way the police responded. School administrators should also be embarrassed that a student was punished for trying to learn something.

It's called zero tolerance, he's lucky the kid didn't really get charged. Kids get expelled for drawing guns let alone bringing what looks like a briefcase bomb to school. It doesn't really matter what it was or what he said it was, it's what people thought it was which is a crime. He didn't even build it, it was a clock from the 80s that he took the casing off and put it into pencil box for some odd reason. Cool clock kid!

(1) make another believe that the hoax bomb is an explosive or incendiary device; or
(2) cause alarm or reaction of any type by an official of a public safety agency or volunteer agency organized to deal with emergencies.
(b) An offense under this section is a Class A misdemeanor.
$15,000,000 folks!
