RE: North Carolina and the Bathroom Laws
I don't understand why they don't just make it so you have to go into the bathroom that corresponds with the gender you look like. If you're a mtf transgendered person who's been through your operation, I don't think any of the women you're sharing a bathroom with are going to care whether you're biologically female or not. They probably wouldn't even be able to tell you were trans, and even if they could, you'd clearly have been through your transition. You are clearly a legitimate transgendered person.
But if you're physically male, haven't yet gone through your transition, but identify as a female, I don't think you should go into the women's bathroom until you've transitioned. Normalising the use of the men's bathroom for people who look like women, and the women's bathroom for people who look like men kinda defeats the purpose of having gendered bathrooms, doesn't it? It also provides much more opportunity by which to abuse the laws for perverts, who can easily just claim that they identify as the gender of the bathroom they've chosen to enter.
Obviously the counter argument would be that it doesn't matter what restrictions you put on entering specific bathrooms. They can't really stop people from entering whichever bathroom they choose, which is of course true. But if transpeople who haven't undergone any operations start frequenting bathrooms that don't correspond with the gender they look like, people will be less inclined to question whether somebody who looks like they should be using the other bathroom, should actually be using the other bathroom, which again, in turn, defeats the purpose of gendering bathrooms. If only people who look like men are supposed to use the men's bathroom for example, then somebody who looks like a woman coming into the men's bathroom would at very least arouse suspicion of their fellow bathroom-goers, and probably be questioned as to why they're in the men's bathroom.
I guess my overarching point is, letting transpeople who've yet to transition into the bathrooms of the gender they identify as, as opposed to the gender they look like, will create more problems than letting people go into the bathroom that corresponds with the gender they look like.
The way I see it, an aspiring athlete doesn't compete until they've mastered their sport. An aspiring musician can't perform on stage until they've mastered their instrument. So why does it make sense for an aspiring female to go into a female's bathroom before she's transitioned into a female?
Because people in many states are against that.
The polls show that.
People who are biologically themselves are being harassed in many states including NC, for using the right bathroom.
The reason why this issue exists in NC to the extent it does, is due to GOP Governor and the GOP majority in the state legislature needing an issue to get the public to rally behind them.
Both were highly unpopular and set to lose the election to the Democrats in November.
Now with the Bathroom Issue and fighting the DOJ in court, they are now popular and set to retain control of NC this November.
This is why other Southern states have followed suit, because the GOP was set to lose in those states too come November.
Granted outside of that people really believe they will be raped, children will be abused and kidnapped, crime will happen, etc... if someone's biology doesn't match the sign on the bathroom door.

Well, I was thinking the exact same way, but was then called a racist and "Miss Hate" along with many other colorful phrases that won't come to mind at this time. This thread should definitely be interesting to watch.

Darn, I flunked.
This was literally chosen by NC's GOP to save them from defeat this November in both the State Houses and Governorship.
The Governor was highly unpopular and expected to lose in November by double digits with Democrats looking at getting majorities in both state houses.
Now literally due to this issue and how it blew up, the people of NC according to new polls to reelect the GOP governor and give the GOP a super majority in both state houses.
They are expected to vote the Democrats out over this issue, despite the State Democrats refusing to engage the issue fearing it will cost them even more.
Hell even the National GOP, Trump, Clinton, National DNC etc... are against NC on this one.
It's the only thing they agree on.
