There's absolutely nothing humorous about the shootings of blacks by cops, but that's no reason to avoid mockery in the process of protesting; just as there was nothing humorous about the Vietnam War, but Abbie Hoffman's attempt to levitate the Pentagon into outer space was treated seriously by the US military, leading to widespread international media mockery of the US military. Defeating fascists is enhanced by such mockery. I remember how SNL made fun of Franco after he died, reporting each week that he was still dead. That probably did more to advance American opinions about the cause of democracy in Spain than any straightforward denunciation could have accomplished.
